A large star just blew up. Actually, it blew up 240m years ago, but we've only just noticed. It was called SN 2006gy. It was 150x the size of our sun, and it was the largest (and brightest) explosion ever recorded – 100x brighter than an average supernova and brighter than all the other stars in its galaxy put together.

Given that there are ~200,000,000,043 stars in an average galaxy (I'm not sure which galaxy this star was in) that makes it pretty bright.

Anybody know how many lumens it might have been?
 
Dang insta-flash. That was an EXPENSIVE bulb, too. :)

oh that's just my luck..does this mean I get a refund from the 'starregistry' ?
