I have one of those NiMh blue smart chargers (7.2-12V) that I'm using now. I need to charge 3 D's, obviously this is'nt 7.2v, can it be done somehow or do I need to purchase another charger? Probably a stupid question but I'm just trying to save a few bucks. Thanks.

It would be helpful to those in a position to respond to your query to have a few more details about your charger jimmyswan, ie: make, model, output etc.

The info on the back says: USC7. 2-12-0918 Universal Smart charger. Input voltage 100-240vac 50/60hz auto switching. Output voltage 7.2-12v dc auto detecting. Output current constant .9A or 1.8A. Auto cut off. Thats all the info I have, hopefully its enough.

No. I have a couple of those chargers and they work well. My green one is 2.4V to 7.2V and I use it to charge 6V battery sticks for my Ultrastinger.

They are not designed to properly detect voltage outside of the specified range and should not be used outside of this range.

You stand a chance of damaging your cells or the charger. There would be some concern with overheating one or the other, possibly to a dangerous point.

Thats what I figured, Thanks for the replies.
