Looking for a cheap <$30, ideally closer to $20 AA or AAA light, would prefer more of a flood than throw. Tail stand is essential. Not fussed about twisty or clicky.
Would like a high/low mode.

I like the look of the Maratac AA/AAA, but they don't ship internationally at countycomm and come to $37 shipped at survival shop. It's quite surprising those lights have been out almost a year, and there's none on ebay and only 2 stockists.

The akoray k-106 fits the bill but it seems to have QC issues (like all DX/KD lights :\)
TANK007 TK-703 looks OK
What else do you guys suggest?

The ITP A3 is similar to the Maratac AAA, and it is cheaper! :)
Go for that! GearUpEurope.com has a great sale on them right now, and they sell international.
Note that they are on fishing and will ship in October..
Ebay :D

The ITP A3 does not tailstand. Original post specified that tail standing was essential.

--flatline

Cut the nipple off then it will but then you have no key ring point but you can use it with a clip or fashion a key carrier onto the clip which I have done and it works just great.:nana:

Consider a Romisen RC-29 II R4 Flood-to-Throw LED.

I just got one of these from ShiningBeam for $20 and it's a very neat little light. The flood is fantastic, totally smooth and bright enough for general camp type work. The aspheric lens focuses down to a nice throw beam, even though at it's limit, you get a cool square projection of the led itself.

This is a different version available only through ShiningBeam..much brighter than the stock flashlight.

It tailstands perfectly, has a good clicky (pressure for momentary, click to turn on), seems very well made and offers you a choice of flood or throw.

Nothing to dislike.

BTW, ShiningBeam may be the fastest dealer I have ever used.

:goodjob:

Ultrafire C3, all the way. Can be bought from the usual suspects for $10-$20 (depending on emitter, modes, body material - I have 2 of the stainless steel ones [DX SKU 26122], myself) and free shipping. They'll run on any AA, including 14500.

how about TrustFire S-A2 Cree? [dx sku.36358]

fits your requirements.

getting one myself for uber low price.

regards,

+1 - you won't go far wrong with this.

Romisen RC-29 looks great with flood-to-throw, but only has 1 mode.
The C3 is apparently fairly heavy in SS and the regular C3 is only single mode.
Can't find much about the TrustFire S-A2, looks good but only has low and high, no medium mode which would be nice. Liking it the most.

The only torches that 100% fit the bill are the Maratac AA and the Quark mini AA, but they both work out at around $40 delivered. The quarks apparently may come with a green tinge, ugh, even $40 you can't get something of reliable quality.

I've generally found that budget implies compromise. Multi-mode was on my could live without list at this price point. The usefulness of flood to throw was worth it to me.

I think Maratac use same circuit like the ITP, i compared my Maratac AAA with ITP A3 they both identical except the design. What i think is Matarac was manufactured overseas through ITP?

Basically if you want Maratac AA/AAA all you need to do is looking for ITP if you live outside USA since the CountyComm did not ship overseas.

Buying something like Akoray K-106 is gambling IMHO. If you were lucking your light will just fine and function well for long period but if you don't your light could be DOA first time out of box. I have Akoray K-106 bought from DX last year and runs using 14500. Mine come with zero problem until present, but this is thrower light.

If i were you i will throw couple more dollars to get Quark Mini AA. It is important for me to get light which the company stands behind it and i'm hundred percent sure 4sevens does it.
