There has been an explosion with a single-cell light using a cheap chinese cell. This was a CR123A primary cell which had been running in a Fenix P1D. The user (SoSa) was lucky not to have been badly hurt.

There have been numerous warnings posted about using cheap, low-quality cells (both primary and rechargeable) and this latest incident is another illustration of the dangers involved.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

Do not buy cheap cells on eBay or from unknown dealers. Stick to well-known, reputable brand-name cells, and buy from reputable dealers only, i.e. those who have been consistently recommended here on CPF as having a good track record for quality.

What makes this incident bewildering is that it was an explosion that occured in a single cell light.

*sigh* I wish Newbie was still here. His threads on CR123 safety were among the most important threads ever on this subject.
