Nah, the title isn't as paradoxical as it sounds; I've heard Gerber getting a bad rap from the higher-up knife community, some of it deserved (some not). Anyway, I decided to fire away and the girlfriend got the me the 06 Automatic for my birthday (bless her heart... she also got the me LMF ASEK also pictured in the photos, along with the 6PL too!).

Anyway, the 06 Automatic is a sweet little folder. I can't wait to use it more. Any weapon that has a clean and functional safety is pretty ace in my books. Fit and finish is spectacular, and as you can see, it's a 3/4 sized LMF blade-style. Blade is S30V, and the handles are T-6061 Aluminum with black anodizing. The blade speed isn't that impressive, but it doesn't need to be. I love the addition of the little pick on the back, makes the knife a real winner for fire/rescue.

Cheers!

I have two gerbers and two cold steels, both old now (approx 18 years).
The gerbers are a MkII double edged dagger with half n half sawtooth aand the best sheath ever, the other is a small loveless/gerber guardian boot knife, also a dagger, both very strong and sharp..

The cold steels are tanto's, a standard tanto with brass fittings, lost the original sheath and had a replacement made, its ok, a great chopper and super stong, the other is a tanto folder (shinobi) with san mai steel, its a good blade but a bit hard to open ina hurry so am thinking of getting a little spyderco as well.

My other blade is a hand made (my design) custom built push dagger, made from D2, blacked blade, micarta handel, kyrdex sheath, small, very sharp, and impossible to get out of my hand when the crunch time comes!

Enjoy your new blades and be safe!

That IS a nice looking auto. My opinion is Gerber lost a lot of fans when they were bought out by Fiskars, and when a good deal of their production went overseas. Just my opinion though.

Gerber is supposed to be bringing back the Mark II with black blade and handle this August. And it's going to be made in USA! I'll be buying a pair; one to carry, the other to keep NIB for my grandkid's 18th birthday.

Both of these baddies were made in Oregon. Good times.
