7 Levels of SHARP

Hey, sharpest level?.... The hairs on your arms see the blade approaching, and just before the blade reaches them, they pop out of your skin and fall away rather than taking on that sharp blade. Oh, and the hair never grows back!

Yup, experienced that myself. But yeah, hair-popping sharpness is a real thing. Kinda wish I hadn't used my arms as a sharpness tester back in the 1990s.

Level 3 ...
Yeah ! Hair popping sharp !
Especially Scandi edges , the hair just explodes off your arm ! Level 3 ......

Haven't achieved Fairytale Land Sharp as yet !
Maybe I should play with better steel ?

I get L3 regularly on my good kitchen knives, skin a tomato stuff. Given the limited / careful use they see they keep that level for 6 months or so before needing a touch up. My "good" carry / daily knives usually get a L4 edge as do my larger [up to about 5"] kitchen knives. My pocket carry {Swiss Army etc] I shoot for L5 on the main & L4 on the secondary blade(s). Smaller folding, locking work knives 2.5-4" I shoot for a L4 & L5 on folding, locking work knives over 4" as well as axes, cleavers, heavy butcher knives & machetes. I do a 2-3" area near the handle to a L4 if the steel allows. I've never even tried to go sharper than L3 but guess I could if I used some diamond paste for edge polishing. None of my work or folding knives are high tech steel(s) & I go by build & intended use to guide me on how shape I try to go. Many of my friends & co-workers won't use my edged tools as they feel they're "to sharp" LOL

Im pretty much L3 on everything I sharpen ..
L2 is something to strive for ..
Which I got the other day but only on part of the blade .. ( Level 2 Hair splicing sharp )
With a Chinese ? Steel 535 Carbon Clone ..

Edge Lore ! ( Something to strive for = Especially when some one else can do it ) ( You can do it too ! )
