CPF Divisions

My husband came up with an interesting idea. CPF Divisions. I would leave it up to you guys to decide who and what belongs in what division but for example, there could be the "Bay Area Division", "Southwest Division" (or "Phoenix Division" but "Southwest" allows for expansion), the "East Coast Division", the "Florida Division", the "Aussie Division", etc.... you get the point. And along with the divisions would come specially designed patches and T-shirts (I have a source for embroidery with names... but that's something to maybe discuss down the road... meanwhile, they would just be the ones through Cafe Press but your division would be available there), hats and other gear for each division.

Is this something you all would be interested in doing?

Sasha, I don't think I understand how this would work. Would there be a seperate CPF for each region? Would each one have its own LED Flashlights, Incan Flashlights. etc? Its own Cafe?

Keith... no. It would be just for "Get-together" type purposes... and specialized logos (perhaps) for each division... for patches, t-shirts, hats... whatever! I dunno... just seemed like it could be fun!

It's ok Keith... it's late... and I know better than most what it's like to get stuck on dumb...

I was just thinking of another way this could be used... There could be "Division" sub-forums here in this forum where members could come and get aquainted with others from their area. It would be neat for newbies especially... never know if there's someone already here who lives right next door! :D ... Would be pretty useful, I would think... and fun as well!

Think globally. Some of us live abroad. You'd need the "Euro" Division, Aussie Division, Pac-Rim Division, etc. I do agree it would help for organizing get togethers, or drumming up contacts when travelling. It would be cool to know that if you were on a business trip to say, Denver, that you could call on "COMountainMan" to ask where to get a replacement P60 module for the one that burned out on your EDC.

Could you also take it a step further, beyond the t-shirt, patch, bumper sticker, etc. and maybe put something in the screen name and avatar area so you'd know, roughly, where someone was from? It could be entirely up to the member if he wanted it there, but it might be handy for search functions.

Just a thought. Now back to our regularly scheduled discussions.

Yup! That's an excellent idea

Sounds neat, but unnecessary, as well as a lot of time and effort.

We do alot of things in life that take alot of time and effort... but are unncessary. Case in point.... CPF itself. So what's your point?

I think we can come up with a CPF Bay Area Division logo. How about a bunch of assorted flashlights arranged like the suspension towers of the Golden Gate Bridge? Perhaps we can come up with a Silicon Valley themed design.

BTW, since last year when scouting for locations to hold events I kept getting puzzled questions from various park officials as to who we are and what we do. I came up with a business card complete with CPF logo and domain address to make us look a little professional.

I like the sound of this, I for one would like an area on cpf for Aussies to interact / share deals / organise meets / trade gear etc.

Great idea Sasha, at least in principle :)

There are a few other forums on the net who do the same thing, but then things often fall flat for some reason.
I thought things would have livened up too, but they just wouldn't for some reason.

Take www.officer.com forums for example.

I'm interested. I just moved in to Santa Cruz, and as far as I can tell I'll be here for the next four years, so joining a "Bay Area" division would help my get acquainted with the local flashlight "scene".

I suppose its concievable....but its going to be completely voluntary for existing users though....

Maet....let Tuba govern his own domain
