Cree BIN Identification?

Does anyone know of a resource with closeup photos of emitters. Even if there is overlap, it would be nice to have some type of photo reference.

thing is, they would all look the same anyway. I can do some pictures next i go to my friend's place (he has the camera and macro lense) but i doubt its possible to tell. The only identifyable thing now is that the newer batches are only phosphered on the die itself, older batches the phospher was everywhere..

There are some pretty good pictures on this page. The newer Crees have a silver backing like this.

You can't tell the bin just by looking at the LED. They are made with the same process and sorted later.

Arent all the emitters made the same way, and THEN sorted based on their flux? Don't see how it would be remotely possible to tell based on the physical looks.

+1 That's exactly spot on. They just sort them into bins, there is no physical difference.

You're exactly right. The only giveaway is that emitters with 4 bond wires are P4 or better. Also, I have never seen a silver backed emitter (one of the newer batches) which is less than Q5. That's not to say they aren't made silver back and Q4 or lower, but I just haven't seen one.
