It's June 6th, anniversary of the 1944 D-day invasion. I'm late posting this today, but I just got back home. Let's take a minute, if you haven't already today, to reflect back.

Did anyone see/hear any statement from any US Government official regarding today? I didn't see anything in the news. I did see the flag at half-mast as I drove past an Army building though. There was no mention in our daily heads-up emails either.

All the more reason why I wanted to post this.

The radio station I listen to had lots of stories and interviews celebrating the 79th anniverssary.

The one that stuck out with me was a Scottish officer who had a pipe specialist (bag pipe player) with him on D Day. The pipe specialist was playing the bag pipes during the battle. An interview with some German soldiers later revealed he did not get shot because nobody shot at the crazy guy in a dress playing a bag of pipes. They were too busy shooting at the guys shooting at them.

I got an email promo from Maglite, offering me their D-Day commemorative flashlights. I took a pass.
I buy product from a company called Til Vahalla Project who sent me an email and my first thought was "great another bogo or something", but it was a statement thanking all those who went to D Day, those who perished and those who survived. No offering to buy merch. Not even a shop now button.
And that.... is why I buy product from those folks.

I got that email from Maglite and thought "why you trying to sell me a flashlight today Tony using D-Day?" That's a Kohl's or Target approach. I could see a "donate here" button or something for that memorial fund. Cool. I'll still buy Maglite products from time to time but did think "c'mon, what's with the sales tactic?" It felt like they were trying to sell me life insurance at a family members funeral.

Received same ad.. Maybe it's my age and/or patriotism, but I've never felt anything negative from any ML advertising
Tony has always supported our folks in public service.

The WWII tribute mm I purchased, a few years ago, when first seen on website.

I received tribute emails from not just Til Valhalla, Wounded Warrior Project, Nine-line, Spec Ops and others. These guys, most are veteran owned and run businesses, they are the only few who speak up for veterans. I don't feel bad giving them my support!

No offense, knucklegary, kudos to you for your purchase. I wish I had the disposable income to be able to afford stuff like that, I'd do it. I'd also contribute to the patriotic organizations and a lot of other charities and programs that I approve of.

However, I do take exception to your statement that "they are the only few who speak up for veterans." What about the American Legion, DAV, VFW, VA and conservative and not so conservative politicians? Senator Jerry Moran (R) of Kansas is all the time supporting pro-veteran legislation, and there are quite a few other U.S. politicians that are pro-veteran, many of them veterans themselves! Maybe you exaggerated a bit?
