So I got an old Cyclops. Let the lead battery go splat on it. Didn't charge it for like a year or so and now it won't do anything. Anyone know of a L-ion battery I can get for it that will fit in the battery compartment. Also, would an LED mod be worth it or should I just stick an HID in there. Figure a 50W will fit without melting it? Still learning here so have pitty.

The easy fix and cheap fix is to just replace the SLA battery.

I li-ion battery will start at 12.60V and drop from there vs. the 13.5-14V from the SLA. The option is to run it from a 4 cell (4S) li-ion battery but this would be over driving the bulb very hard.

Many have converted their lights to HID which is pretty straight forward. Any HID automotive H4 bulb type kit will work.

Forget LED, as it would be a waste of time. The best multi-dies put out just over 1000 lumens and you'd lose most of your throw.

I also have a dead Cyclops I'm trying to make bigger, faster, stronger...

I just purchased a 50W HID kit on the ebay. It was cheap, so I'll probably get what I paid for, but maybe I'll be surprised. It is a 6000k H4 bulb advertised at 5000 lumens. I'm using an 8A motorcycle battery for power.

Does anyone see any problems in my future when I try to build this? Is 50W too much? Will the bulb and or ballast melt the cyclops?

Should I forego the 50W and buy a 35W HID kit?

A side question for the mod - I tried the "Search this forum" function and searched for "50W" and "30W" and no results came back. Is there a filter on 3 character search strings? I got plenty of results when I used the google site search function, but can't filter by the spotlights forum.
