Hello everyone,

I want to buy an Akoray K-106 flashlight, and on DX there is the 5-mode version (sku 28546) and on KD there is the programmable 3 mode version (Id=6974). I don't really care about the programmable feauture and the number of modes, and on KD it's about $6 more expensive, so is it more worthwile qualitywise to buy from KD? I don't live in the US, so I don't want to bear the hassle of returns/refunds etc.

Thanks,
woodentsick

Neither of them is in the US...both are in Hong Kong (I believe) and both are only selling products not manufacturing them so to me it really makes no difference.

If you don't care about programming there is a 3 mode version K-9 on DX for $10.

The programmable versions have proven to be of a better build quality and more reliable than the non programmable ones - so I'd order the one from KD even if you don't care about the programmable modes.

+1

There are LOTS of complaints about the newer and cheaper akorays (and clones) but I only saw a couple or so on the programmable version in the first batches. I would try to get the programmable one, but be aware that they are dimmer at maximun using NiMH.

Both of them have so many caveats and are so delightfully bad that it is hard to make a call on this. But DX seems more popular and has more user input, which is crucial since the product descriptions are so unreliable (or just dead wrong: there is a DX R5 light that says it takes 2x16340's, but if you do that it burns out the driver!). I kind of like KD's website more (I think I'm the only one) and I want them to do well, so I buy from both. KD had R5 flashlights long before DX, but now that DX has them too, the DX ones seem to be better.

I refuse to buy anything from KiaDomain after the lies, misrepresentions, delays and defective product they started with (REX Light).

Who burned out what driver without using 2 x IMR16340?

I have made many, many orders from DX and only one from KD. Everything has been ok with both. Dx has super cool website with excellent support system (not very fast but works.)

It was one of the seraph clones. The product description says 2x16340, but the voltage says 4.2V. Turns out you will burn it out with 2x16340's (don't think they were using IMR's), as warned in a couple of the comments. sku 32720

Jayki's site has the tale: http://www.jayki.com/6578#17

Ah, OK. I ordered the Skyray since that seemed like the better deal: better driver, better printing on the body and probably as much R5 as the other ones.
