Hi everyone, I have found a few packs of NiMH batteries in a pile of junk in the closet for my wireless phones(Not mobile, house phones.) I am wondering if NiMH batteries in general can still hold a charge even though it was sitting in the pile fully depleted for about a year. Thanks in advance.

If they have been sitting dead for an extended period of time, then they are probably junk.

It depends. After one year they might be OK, after three years probably not.

To find out you would have to measure the voltage on them. If the voltage is still greater than 1.2 V per cell they are probably still usable. To keep them healthy, give them a long slow charge by putting them in a phone for 24 hours without using the phone. Then use the phone until they are empty and put them back into storage. Repeat every six months.

Thanks! I will now go and try and jump the cells back to life.
