Discovery for Firefly - easier reflector Mod

I read a couple years ago about the way to mod a Firefly from an Optic to a reflector by using a IMS 17mm SO17XA. It sounded difficult and tricky to get it cut down without going through the sides and ruining it. I was just looking at a light I picked up from another member here a few months ago and while a neat little light it is just a 1/2 watt LED. The reflector in it looked like it might be an easy fit into the Firefly so I pulled it (easy removal - no glue on anything and two holes to unscrew things with a needlenose pliers). The light I'm talking about is here and quite cheap - only $10.99 :

I did have to dremel out the LED opening a bit and also filed down the outside edge as well as filing a bit of the bottom to get the focus good but it was a close fit even before doing any of that. It just wouldn't quite go all the way down in the head without taking some off the outside ridge. While trying the fit it was quite tight until my last filing job I took off a tiny bit too much and it didn't want to stay in place after that so I used a little Silicone II to keep it in place. I really like using silicone as it holds well but if you change your mind can be easily removed and cleaned off. So I don't have a pic of what I did but I'll put up a drawing showing where to file as this worked fairly well. Cheesy drawing but you'll get the idea - may not even be needed as it will be fairly obvious what you need to do if you get one of these to fit it in the Firelfy.

It produces a fairly large but reasonably clean spot and fair amound of flood. I'll try to get up a beamshot later. Also by using silicone to hold the reflector in place (unless you quit filing at the right time then it's a good force fit) you won't need to worry about finding an O-ring to keep the reflector in place. At least in mine the whole copper bezel part is well behind the front glass lens on this. It's nice to see a round spot out of the Firefly finally instead of the squarish beam produced by the Fraen optic. If you get the little CR2 Coast light to make this mod you'll be left with a fairly small and nice tailswitch which you'll find almost fits right into the tail of a MiniMag - might not be hard to make it useful for that or some other light mod. I've also had been thinking for some time that this tiny light might do well with a Seoul P4 mod as the board is easy to get out - if you don't steal the reflector for your Firefly :D
