How necessary is it to pot the driver? BTW, I'm running an XPG with a 1.4a shiningbeam driver.

Thanks for your reply Black Rose. I would like to change my question to a more general one. Do you guys pot your drivers? If so, is it mainly for thermal or shock protection?

It depends on the driver. If you have a driver with an inductor or drive a 7135 driver closer to its max voltage range, then it might be useful.
I did also never pot my p60 drivers, but they were mostly 7135-based drivers.

In the last few builds I potted the driver. I figure it adds a little extra protection. Plus it allows me to get the driver in place so I can finish any soldering I have left. I usually use devcon 2 ton epoxy. It has good consistency and is easy to work with. It is good for temperatures up to 200F.
