Do Eneloops come pre-charged?

I just ordered a Titanium M8800 Smart Fast 8 Bay AA/AAA Battery Charger, and a set of 8 Sanyo Eneloop AAs for my Fenix TK40.(Note:neither the light or my charger and batteries have arrived yet.) Do I have to charge the batteries before I install them,or can I take them out of the package, install them in my TK40,and start having fun right off?

Thanks,Mike

most LSD cells come precharged, depending on how long they have been sitting after charged will be the charge left in them. I recommend charging them before using them but if you need to I would guess they would have about 80% or so charge in them out of the package.

It's a good way to tell that they are LSD. I've seen some non-enloop LSD packaging that was very hard to tell they were LSD, but the "Precharged" was very obvious. Good if you are having someone else (spouse, parent, kid, etc) pick up a pack for you at the store.

After a year or so in storage they will come with 60-80% of juice...I'd have them topped off before I start using them, or else that first impression will last:whistle:

Just a cautionary note if you elect to charge your cells before putting them into service.

There are indications that new or idled cells don't produce a very strong termination signal for the charger, which can result in missed terminations and over-charged cells.

Discharging the cell before the first charge is supposed to help rehabilitate the signal but, even then, the first few charges should be closely monitored to ensure the charge terminates when it should.

I have found your above statement to true for every package (and type) of LSD that I have bought to date. The consequence, if I don't, are cells that become quite hot. This is quite a disconcerting aspect to find with new cells.

I thought it was just me.

All the ones I've seen have come precharged.

I'd be especially careful to NOT run the batteries all the way down on the first cycle if it's in a multicell flashlight. If one is weaker than the others, it could get reverse charged.

Given a choice, I'd trickle charge them fully before the first full discharge cycle.

You getting cells, and charger and a nice light. Please get a multitester to check out the voltages. As an added benefit you can check on your AMD motherboards and power supplies.

I took a quick look at the charger (Battery Junction). Those AA cells are sitting close to each other. When you use the charger, for the first few times - touch the batteries when the indicator shows the batteries are near full. If the batteries get too hot to touch you might want to return the charger to Matt (I assume you bought it from him.) I can't wrap my brain around the Specifications page. I don't know how it can fill up a 2000mA cell in 2 hours at only 500mA per channel. Probably something lost in translation. I have never used this charger! So take my advice for how much you paid for it.
