I bought a Dorcy 4 D lantern at Wal Mart the other day to check out for use in my camper. I loaded the batteries and turned it on and ........ it is dim, as expected. I pulled a TerraLUX out of my 4 D Mag and popped it in. WHOAAAAAAA..... this is bright!!!! As much light as when the lights in the camper are turned on. I put the lantern on top of the cabinets so most of this light is from ceiling bounce. I really like the light this setup produces but the TerraLUX gets hot. I am afraid for extended run times it will melt the plastic of the lantern. I next tried a NiteIze drop in. More light than the stock bulb, but nowhere near as much as the TerraLUX. Is there any other drop in somewhere between the NiteIze and TerraLUX in terms of light and heat?
Before you suggest it I do have 3 of the River Rock lanterns. I am just playing around with the Dorcy for now to see if it has any possibilities. Thanks for your help!
