Here is a design that i have been working on.

Twin R2 with claimed output of 250 each. The housing and the battery monitor circuit is all custom. 7 levels of indication!

Enjoy more at my site.

Further developments are ongoing, new rear plate with DC plug removing trailing cables. IP67 rated switches, and possibly some higher power LED's, urm I'm thincking P7 at 900 Lumen.

interesting work. why not try a dual XP-G setup with both driven at 1.5A? That would be more efficient than a single P7 :)

that magicshine racer 900 looks like a light being sold on DX .. oh wait, it's sku 25149.

when you build a light yourself.. you know what kind of time went into it, and how the quality is ;)

i am new to this and wanted a create a good light that i could use on my way home from my late shift. But i have now sort of got the bug. I want to use the P9 as i have already have them. i am looking to do a similar twin design. At the moment i am mainly using deal extreme but want to find some better suppliers and i have mainly been limited in design by optics.

You've done well nad if you have a decently thick 'firewall behind those LED's that housing will run cool with a lot more power through it.

XP-G S2'a are coming, and two of those at 1.5 A are 1000 lumens if they stay cool. An idea.

Inexpensive high power lights may not be dependable long term and remain satisfying lights: http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=601973

When you know you need lights for the long haul, a good DIY that you can upgrade and repair is a very good alternative. But each to his own tastes.

That's not the same unit. Magicshine came out w/ a "1400" lumen one w/ dual XP-Es and a P7.

And I totally agree, I'm making 3 custom lights myself for fun. But for someone looking for an off the shelf unit, that one is available.

What optics are those? I haven't found any decent 20mm optics that fit my dual R2 light (modded Cateye Double Shot).
