Ive got a P7 mounted on a good heatsink in a maglite 3D. its being powered by 9 NIMH AA cells. Im using the KD multimode driver from here. http://www.kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=1866 As the description describes, after a few minutes, the driver heats up and switches to low mode. It seems to go to low really fast. Will mounting the driver to the switch assy to isoate it from the heat produced by the led be best... or would mounting it to the heat sink be better. ive seen some say that the KD driver does not like higher voltages (8+) so is it simply going to overheat no matter what untill I get a lower voltage source?

Mount the driver to the inside of the tube just above the
switch so that it is perpendicular to the switch itself.
Use lots of thermal heatsink epoxy. The "arctic" brand
works very well. The beast way with that particular
driver is to remove the "Positive" post and solder the
battery+ right to the driverboard itself. That method
gives you a flatter surface to glue it to the tube without
possibly shorting out the positive post to the body of the
mag. You will need about a teaspoon's worth of epoxy
to mount it. Make sure that the battery post-side gets
mounted to the tube, and not the side with the really
tall inductor. Most of the heat is dissapated on the
battery+ side anyways.

Good Luck!
