Dumb question

I know that this will make you laugh but I really don't know.
I just got my 2nd KD Tough and this one came with a plastic ring which I have no idea where to put.
I tried to insert it at position 1 in my photo but then the flashlight doesn't work (I thought the battery would still have contact).
So where to put it and what's it for? Please explain in easy words as I do not know the English words for the specific parts of this thing.

It looks like you got a spare O-ring. You don't need to put it anywhere. Keep it safe untill you need to replace one that is already installed.

It looks like a spare O-ring. Keep in somewhere so if you break one of the O-rings, you can replace it without having to go to a store.
