Hey guys, I just purchased this Duracell Power Gauge charger and while charging the batteries that it came with, it seems to get very very hot. Not the batteries itself as it just stays warm but the charger gets extremely hot everywhere. Does anyone else also experience this?

If the charger is getting hot (how hot exactly? to the point where you cannot touch it or just to the point where it is warm to the touch?) If it is the former, then you should probably e-mail/ call Duracell and have them send you a replacement charger.

It's more than warm to the touch. I can pick it up and hold it in my hand, but only with great effort as it feels like it's about to burn my hand. Of course there are no burns but it is much much hotter than the batteries that it's charging. Maybe it's because it put it on my carpet? Am I supposed to place it on a cold surface to charge?

Is it the batteries that are heating up and causing the charger to over heat? Or is it the charger getting unbearably hot? If you can almost get burned by the charger, definetly send it back for a replacement.

Seems like putting it on carpet would not be a good idea. Air may need to be able to circulate all around it. Don't the instructions specify something about placement of the charger?

I have found that the LEDs that indicate the batteries charge level seems to be producing a decent amount of heat. These LEDs must be driven pretty hard or something because I can control it where it turns off and the heat goes away. Do you think the LED indicators will die quicker at these elevated temperatures?

It sounds like something is wrong in your particular unit. What I like best about this charger is that both it and the batteries stay very cool throughout the charge. Batteries get a bit warm as they top up, but not as much as any of my other chargers and not for long. The charger stays very cool, with the exception of VERY slight warmth at the indicator LED area. I would return it as a defect, although it may be good to try to inform Duracell directly, but a company that size will just say "send it in" and it will land in the same place anyway.
