So duracell has this new "truebeam" technology. I havn't seen any threads about it, but it looks interesting, as I just received my x2000 zoom to throw cree from DX, and its the most useful light I have ever used.

It appears to use a reflector and a lens, I'm guessing an asperical lens.

I just ordered the 3AAA version of the duracell light (I'm going to try to put a cree Q5 in it).

The 2x CR123 version looks better, and claims more power and light, but It's price is too much.

looks like a seoul Led , wonder if its the good bin

I've tried to find info on it but there aren't any. Saw it in store and thought it was neat, but it doesn't have a test button to try it out.

what store, im thinking of getting the 2aa version, if the optics work as advertised it shows no donut :D im curious now

They had one of those lights at OSH. I looked at it, and put it back. Apparently I did not look too carefully, because it didn't appear at a glance to be anything all that special.

I think that dome is actually the lens (the little thing under it represents the led). From the examples of the spot and flood settings at the bottom, it looks like only the lens is moved in relation to the emitter while the reflector remains at the ideal focal point for the emitter. Only the light passing through the lens goes "from spot to flood" while the light from the reflector stays at the same focus (maybe a medium flood?). Of course we don't know if this system really works as well as they claim.

EDIT: I guess as the lens is moved further away from the emitter for the flood position, it also releases more side-spill.

I couldn't help myself buying one to try out (2xAA version).

Can't remember if the lens had any type of optics to it, but I was underwhelmed by the lack of much difference between the flood and spot settings.

Also, I saw quite a bit of beam artifacts in the spill, which drives me nuts.

But brightness and build quality seemed decent for a dept. store flashlight. I was suitably impressed that the batteries were nice and snug, with no annoying battery rattle.

Overall, it's not bad, but I ended up giving it away to my dad.

Looks interesting, however the marketing makes me question much about the light. It claims the LED running at 3W gives 80 lumens, and the LED running at 4W gives 160. (wow I'd love to have an LED that gets more efficient when power goes up :D)
So because of this, it is pretty hard for me to take any of the marketing at face value. But I have what seems to be my usual question to anyone who ends up buying the 2x CR123 version... can it take 18650?

x2...
It would need a Cree Q2-Q5 to generate that much light out the front. My brightest P4 lights top out around 150L (visual estimate), and I dont think any Seoul based design can reach that.

Still though, I find anything around /over 100L to be perfectly suitable for jobs around the house.

$39 for a USA made light is a pretty good deal IMHO for those interested in a USA product. For comparison, my local Lowes sells the G2L (USA made Seoul emitter, 80L) for a little under $80.

I bought one at Sportsman's Warehouse last night. (the AA version) Running on e2 Energizer lithiums, it is putting out 80-100 lumens. The beam is a cool white one with blue artifacts. Spot is star like with many artifacts in the spill when the light is set to spot. Flood is a large square with less artifacts in the spill, but blue artifacts in the square hot spot.

I think it is a decent light for the $$$ ($34) but white wall hunters will hate it. It is more than bright enough for a late night walk and while being long for a 2xAA, it is decently light. It will tailstand and has a recessed forward clicky.

Its nice that decent lights can now be bought at W-mart and other stores. It kills my 3xAA minimag in output and is brighter than a 6p incan with the p60 bulb. Not bad for the price.

7...did you get it yet , show us some pics ,hows the beam ,output,is it regulated?

Went to 3 Wal Marts today and none of them had these. Did yal find them in the sporting goods department where all of the other lights are?? I was either in the wrong department or Houston area Wal Marts have not received any. Even if they are halfway descent lights they look really cool with the copper tone on the body.

Just got it. Here is a simple review : IT SUCKS!
Its probably pushing 60 lumens, the optics are horrible and nothing like the advertisement. It goes from half-way spot with an insane amount of artifacts shitty *** spill, to slightly more spot with with just as many artifacts. Quite possibly the worst optics I have ever seen. If you want an adjustable flood to spot light, get the x2000 zoom cree from DX, I have one and I absolutely love it.

 any pics,

sigh..i hoped it was gonna be good i was about to buy one

it's such a piece of crap that it isn't even worth taking pictures of. Trust me, never buy one.

You should have taken pictures. They are worth a thousand words.

I and several others on this site own one. The general consensus I have seen is that they are certainly not "crap". The Duracell 80 (or even the 160) is definitely not going to impress you with its wall shots, but that's because it was not designed to excel at wall shots. Personally, wall shots don't get it for me, that's not why I buy lights.

But for you wall shots people, here is a link to wall shots of the Duracell 80 (2AA version). Enjoy making fun of the weird pattern. :candle:

And if you want to trash talk the 80 because it looks like it puts out an ugly blue light, buy it from Walmart, try it, and take it back if you still feel the same way afterward. At least you will be talking from first hand experience...

Personally, the Daylite 160 is a much better light though in my opinion. It's shorter, lighter, brighter and whiter. Maybe it doesn't have a lot of bells & whistles, But it does an awesome job of lighting up the night.
