I have a SF E2D on the way, and was wondering if there were any suggestions on mods or upgrades that would be worth trying. I just can't leave anything stock!

It's hard to think of normal add-on stuff for the E2D since it is so specialized. I mean sure you can add a KL1 or KL4 or something like that, but then you lose the aggressive bezel design which is the whole point of the E2D. I guess if you're really keen, a custom mod would be the way to go....

I am off topic here but can anyone confirm if the E2D is a black HAIII or HAII ??

Is it possible to mod it into a Luxeon 3 or 5 watter??

Surefires web site says it's typeIII. I've been looking through past posts for more info on the PR/PR-T deads, and am a little confused by what's included and the options available. Not to mention when they might be available to buy. Can anybody clear the air a little?

You can put a Luxeon with E-Sink and E-can in the head if you are inclined. I am waiting for some so17xa's to see if I can come up with a mod using it in the stock head. I like the simple solution of just sticking a PR-T on it and pland to build out a couple that way to sell. I want to stick two stages switches in the guarded tail cap as well.

Fitz,
The PR and PR-T's are available as DIY's and some of us also build them out and sell them from time to time. On the E2d, I think the best ticket is a DownBoy 917 but then there are other options depending on ones needs.

Don ... couldn't you have said this a bit earlier ??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif
Now I have ordered one of those cool things ...

The type of lens that the E2d uses looks to me that will give more rum to stick a P-61 lamp without reflector (Nascar mod.)
So that way you preserve the unique shape and have a small 120 lumens light.

Sorry Bernhard! There sems to be too much to keeptrack of these days....

juanco,

Ithink you will find that some of the P61 envelopes will fit within the curvd dome of the E2d window but others will be to tall. The tall ones will require the O-ring shim.

Albert,

There are black PR-T heads available now. I may need to get more to Wayne. The PR's in black were slow to move and it had seemed that the PR-T style had taken over the interest. As a result, I cut back on the last order and had most of what I got done in HA-Nat. Certainly black hosts were not readily available in the past but now with the E2d n black there may be more demand. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif I am currently working on a design that merges the two. With limited finances and the fickleness of this mod and DIY business, neither Wayne nor I can afford to invest in too deep of inventory! Ask Wayne how much capital he has stuck in Luxeons that he is sitting on right now! Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining here but reality is reality!

McGizmo,
I'm still a newbie at the whole Led thing, so forgive my ignorance here! A couple of questions for you:

1. With a completed PR head (screw-on ready?) what kind of options are availably for the Led and how is the beam affected by them?

2.Are you saying that you're planning on making a drop-in kit that uses the stock head but replaces the reflector and has an Led "capsule" of some sort? No soldering required?

I'm sure I have more questions, but I'm probably overloading you already! Thanks!
