Fenix HM61R ticking all the boxes?

Random question from someone that hasn't been paying attention for a while. Why would I pick the HM61R V2 over the HM65-T V2? For a running / working light.

Also, anyone running the Vapcell N40 in these lights? Seems like we'd get a nice boost in runtime.

N40 life cycle is probably poor due to it's high mHA rating. But, batteries are consumables - so treat them as such.

Yeah, I think the cycle life on the N40 is pretty low, maybe a few hundred cycles. But, I don't think I care much for something that is used about once a week.

Random question from someone that hasn't been paying attention for a while. Why would I pick the HM61R V2 over the HM65-T V2? For a running / working light.

The HM65-T has limited upward tilt and small buttons that aren't easily accessible, especially with cold hands, big hands or gloves.

The HM62-T would be a great option. It's 15% lighter with 180 degrees of tilt and has a simple UI with a single large end button and a very useable red light.

Attention owners, usage update. There might(?) be a quality problem with the "charging cable V2" (ccv2 for short), i.e. the included charging cable for the hm61r V2.0. In order to verify this claim once and for all, i am prepared to conduct an official test, starting today. For this test, i am using a brand new, unused ccv2 unit. The key elements to observe are the charge current, as displayed by my USB doctor, AND the color/status of the charging LED (under the rubber boot switch).

=> With the simple test setup above, it will be easy to see/learn when the charging cable V2 starts to degrade and stop working properly. Anomalies will be visible on the display of the USB doctor, and the color/status of the charging LED: in particular, you should never see an orange charging LED! Fingers crossed, stay tun** 🐟.

To all V2 owners who use the ccv2 all the time: please check with a USB doc and report if you notice any 'degradation of the charging'. If you do, then the culprit is the cable, not the torch.

The day has come, 2024-07-09, the ccv2 has died. Degraded very fast within 2-3 days, i didn't pay perfect attention. Not even 2.0 full months of non-stop "use" (=magnetic connection all the time, including several re-sets) did it last!
Bad news: It is herewith 100% definitely confirmed that the ccv2 (any production batch!) is poor quality and will eventually die, rather sooner than later. Of course, it's nothing that Fenix QC department is able to check/verify when they receive new supply from the cable manufacturer. They could only verify my findings if they did the same long-term nonstop testing. This is actually the 3rd ccv2 unit which died on me, from different production years. And while yes, the ccv2 can be purchased separately as spare part from the national distributor for 10€ mas shipping, i wouldn't recommend buying it .. because it would fail on you again like that.
Good news: It's only the cable which goes corrupt (instead of ignorant users believing that something's wrong with the flashlight electronics). Problem is, that those users cannot verify if the cable has gone corrupt or the flashlight electronics, only until they get their hands on a new ccv2 unit.

Tbh, without the magnetic charging, the HM61R lights (V1.0 V2.0) do lose their charm.

So how am i gonna live around the problem? (Well, first of all, Fenix China should get informed and try to contract a much better quality cable manufacturer)
I am gonna switch roles of the two lights. That is, i'll use again my V1.0 as perma-connected desktop light, no prob; the ccv1 has been working without fail or degradation for years and years, great quality! And as headlamp, walkaround light, beater, and alike, i'll use the V2.0; and when it needs recharging, i'll charge the battery externally in my MC3000. I can live and move on like that, and i will, no big deal.

In the meantime I hope that Fenix China is going to fix the ccv2 quality problem for us. That would be swell!

I think the hm65t is lighter. There's also the new HM 62t which is even higher.
