Cool new L1D/Rexlight/Dexlight style (almost) clone for under $20.

DX has this MTE C2 4-Mode SSC 42180 Flashlight (1x 14500)

Features a SSC 42180 LED Emitter
- Powered by 1 x 14500 3.6V battery (sold separately)
- Switch type: Tail Clicky On/Off (with soft press)
- Four modes (via soft press): High (100%) > Mid (70%) > Low (30%) > Strobe > High ...

Requires 14500 battery

..Personally, I think it's goofy to have something in a AA form factor that ONLY takes 3.7v cells...
+1 on that. As this thing already has a turbo head, it might as well be a RCR123 light (fat enough to take 18mm wide cells): it would be shorter, it might light (a little at least) on a primary CR123, it would allow a future body or extender to take protected 18650 cells, and I already have RCR123's.

AND it wouldn't cost any more to make. A $15 four level 3.7V 1xRCR123 light with glass lens and Cree is something I'd jump at. Add an optional 18650 body for a few $$ more and you'd have a winner.

Seems Kai and Kyle are offering similar lights. As I said in the other thread (Kai's), the circuit is probably inefficient and the modes are not too useful.

Chair Legs

I'm also intrigued by the UltraFire Cree C3 Flashlight with 2xAA Extension Tube Bundle found here for $20.50. When they get to where they can take two AA or more batteries, I find they all start looking like chair legs!

Can you tell us what tests you did on them to determine why the modes will not be useful. ?

I explained my thoughts about the modes and the circuit in the other thread. low not low; med similar to high. Kai himself admits it.
