I'm sure this has been discussed in much depth before on CPF but I can't find any specific threads that describe the same problem my light has...

Basically my L2D used to work fine but then something seems to have happened with the tailcap and it would start flickering. Eventually it took about 4-5 clicks to get it to turn on and now it has stopped working completely. I'm thinking that maybe it had some kind of short-circuit in the tail-cap because for a little bit I could put my ear to it and I heard a slight noise that I no longer can hear.

I've contacted Fenix and am waiting to see what they say. I went on their website and followed the "flashlight care video" and tightened the tail cap screw with forceps but that's done nothing.

I've even posted a video of the flashlight being clicked on and off with nothing happening so that they could see for themselves....

Fenix L2D Q5 problems...

Any thoughts on what I should do next?

Thanks a bunch guys.

You may want to start by completely disassembling the switch. Use your forceps to take that retaining ring all the way out, then your switch module should drop out after it. Check for damage; if you don't see anything, I believe the accepted method is to give the switch module a bath in isopropyl alcohol. This might clean contact surfaces within the switch, but you might want to get confirmation on that from other forum members; I've never done any switch maintenance personally.

Obviously, I'd advise waiting to do this or anything else drastic until you hear back from Fenix.

Try a paper clip as a tail cap, if it work, then your tail cap switch module is dead.
Call or email fenixoutfitters.com or 4Sevens.com ask if you can buy a new switch.

I'll try the paper clip idea.

But quite frankly I don't really believe I should be paying for a part on a defective flashlight within the warranty period. I also bought a TK20 and that flashlight came with a defective lens which was loose, therefore rendering it not waterproof. I'm seriously starting to wonder about Fenix quality? Is this normal or do I just have really bad luck? I have used the L2D for 3 camping trips and protect it like a baby...

I'm 0 for 2 with Fenix here. :ironic:

I'm not sure how they are constructed, but be careful about tearing into the tail cap, you might void your warranty.

+1 on the paperclip idea.

Keep us posted on how they handle your issue.
