Does anyone have the fenix ld 22 w/ the XP-G2 led? I saw this upgraded model at my local gun store the other day, which advertised 230 lumens on the box. I figured I'd do some searching on the forums before grabbing one but nothing came up. I'd like to know how this model compares to the XPG R5 and S2 models (in tint and output). I live in Hawaii and I didn't think an upgraded fenix light would be available here before anywhere else, except China.

I don't have any of the LD22 versions but comparing the specs for XPG R5 and S2 vs XPG-2 R5 you saw in the shop, if Fenix have just changed the led and nothing else the improvements over the S2 are marginal: 15 lumen more and 5 meters better. Over the R5 the improvements are more noticeable. Note though that I found 215 lumen for the XPG-2 so if the box said 230 than it would be a 30 lumen improvement: barely noticeable to the naked eye in either case.

I can't compare runtime but I suspect that since they haven't made the XP-G2 version much brighter the runtimes are going to be improved compared the S2.
All in all, if you don't have any of the previous LD22 lights and the price difference is reasonable, I'd definitely go for the XP-G2 version as it is supposed to offer a better performance even if not by a big margin.

Depending on how I googled it, I found a few retailers listing the LD22 XPG2 such as firsthandsurvival.com, gpknives.com, and copquest.com

edited to add: Today I saw the LD22 XP-G2 model inside a local REI at just under $ 60 USD

The distance you are reporting for XP-G2 version is not meters but feet!
Otherwise the LD22 XP-G2 would be hell of thrower! :twothumbs

I picked one up at REI. I first got the 190 but it wouldn't go down to the 3 lumen mode, All of the ones didn't get the 3 mode. So I ponied up the extra $15 and got the 215 version. I like it so far, it is my first good light besides my Insight M3 weapons light.

I had thought to myself, wow! Fenix has somehow managed to triple the throw -- they're geniuses!

I just bought the 190 lumen R5 version as my first good flashlight aside from my 2 ZL headlamps. Its a hell of a nice light. Good choice for me. Goes down to the very low 3 lumen mode fine.

PD32 on the way.
This will be my first 18650 light. Bought good Eagletacs and a good charger to go with it.

Picked up this upgraded (led) model today. I made a mistake and posted that it had a 230 lumens max output, when if fact it's 215 lumens in turbo mode. Sorry, my bad! I can't wait to try it out tonight and see how it compares to my Quark AA2 tactical (neutral tint) and E21. Thanks guys for your input.

Congrats, enjoy the light! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

If you can post some beamshots, it would be good to see how the LD22 XP-G R5 looks like. So far there are a couple of comparison between the different PD32 models.

I don't have a LD22, but having both a LD12 S2 and LD12 G2 if I was in the market for a LD22 I would defiantly pick the XP-G2 model. Regardless of more distance or not I find the XP-G2 to be whiter and brighter then the S2 I have.

Earlier I have had the predessecors of this light, the first I think was called L2D. Max 160lm something, at that time impressive with a 2AA light. Now I am again tempted to get the newest one. Momentary on and 2-ways to use clip are good features. But I wonder about the tint; anyone here who have experience with the LD22 XPG2, what's your opinion?

The XP-G2 I have seen around - I have 3 from Fenix though not LD22 - have a very nice tint. Kind of warmish white, verging to yellow or at least that's my perception. The hotspot is somewhat wider than the XP-G and the beam is pretty much artifact free. In terms of tint a definite improvement compared to the XP-G! I

A few days ago I received LD22 215lm version together with a new design E11. Earlier I have had two of the predecessors, but they are sold since some year ago. With this new LD22 I really like the momentary on, even if it could be faster.
The side button works good but now are all the brightness levels chosed with the side button, even turbo mode. Actually I would like that turbomode had been selected by tightening the head like with the predecessors. I appreciate that it's possible to rapidly press the tailcap button without changing the brightness, however.
The grip could be better even if it's still better than, especially my first L1D.
Otherwise I have not much bad to say about the light. Well spaced brightness levels and the tint is cool white, not bluish or greenish. The two way clip design is good.
