Hey guys, I just bought a new Fenix LD20 and noticed around the central beam, there is a Sickel shaped area not lit(dark). Its noticable enough to make me post this, so if any of you have had that problem or have any advice to fix it, im all ears. Should I return it or is there a way to fix it? Or is that just how they are? Thanks

Try shining it on something other than a white wall. I bet you won't be able to tell it's there even looking for it.

Can you post some beamshot, or compare the beam with the ones posted everywhere in the forums. Most flashlights have some kind of "cree rings", but if there is a big unlit ring it can be a defect.

it's normal and very rarely perfect. if you are picky with beamshots like me :p you should try liteflux, eagletac(not p100a), the new quark series.

Wow guys, thanks so much for the quick replies. It really helps when your "worried" about your new 60 dollar flashlight. Yes, i will try to post a beamshot tommorow for you guys to analize. BTW, im thinking of getting a Nitecore D10. Any suggestions on it? Or how about any Other 1AA flashlight? Thanks again.

No, suprisingly. I will post a picture of the inside of the bezel (hopefully tommorow). Its bugging me badly though. I like a PERFECT beam. Im too picky. But hey, i paid 55 bucks, and i want my moneys worth. :)

Thanks for the suggestions. Is the Liteflux LF3XT any good? I happen to be looking for a nice beamed, 1AA flashlight. Im also looking into the Nitecore D10. Any suggestions?

you mean the amoeba like in this ld10? (borrowed from selftbuilt review). you can go through the review forum and check out different beams to see which one suits you best.

Yes F22, it looks just like that. Thanks a lot for the picture. (I couldnt figure out how to post mine) Also, did you read my comment about being in the market for a 1AA flashlight. Any suggestions for around 60 dollars? Thanks

Oh, and yes I did see you said to look at beam pictures but i wanted to know what you thought were "good" AA flashlights. Since you seem to know quite a bit. :)

My LD20 has the same type of beam defect. I have learned to live with it, although as said for $60 you would expect a near flawless beam.

The LF3XT has probably the nicest beam you can get out of a Cree Q5, but it isn't a 1 x AA, it actually takes 1 x CR123A or 2 x AA with the optional body which is available now. Use the search function and you'll find tons of stuff about that great (and not expensive) light.

Personnally, I don't know a 1 x AA light with a really nice beam, I own only two, the LD10 and the Jetbeam Element E3P. Its beam is quite nice, but the light is stainless steel and so quite heavy and large, not recommandable for EDC, but for collecting... :welcome:

I should check mine, never noticed anything. Which reflector do you have? My LD10 has an SMO while the LD20 has an OP, Personnally I preffer the OP, but for 1 x AA it takes throw away.

Instead of getting an LD10 body, you also can get a whole LD10 with an OP (if yours is an SMO, which I think it is) and then you can use just the head you want on the body you want. Perfect combination for an upcoming flashaholic!

Could simply get the 1xAA body for yours and Lego it into an LD10.

yup you could do that. or with the quark aa2 with an aa body(guarantees a centered led with very similar ui to fenix.)

i think there are alot of good ones out there. you have to decide which characteristics are more important. it seems that an even beamshot is on your list so i still recommend you check out the various beamshots. some manufacturers make it narrow to make a perfect transition at the expense of a narrower beam(tunnel vision).

if you are looking for a rating system to compare value per dollar you can check out light-reviews.com

personally, i really like the quark tactical series now but that's my own preference and i dont even have it in my hands either.:p

Once again the CPF guys come to the rescue! Thanks again for the replies. I will be looking into which one to buy( i really dont want to buy a different body for my ld20. I prefer 2 flashlights at once, i dont know why). I will let you guys know which one i chose, and thanks for the suggestions. I will keep those in mind.

I have resorted to pretending i cant see it. it is easy to see on a white wall, but just knowing its there makes me irritated.... :) Oh well, thats for next gen flashlights. Cant wait till companies can say 100% PERFECT BEAM. (for a reasonable price)Ahhh, hoping the day will come soon.

You could get one of these for it at Batteryjunction.com or just put some tape over the lens.
