Fenix lost their chief engineer?

Was chatting the other day with a local dealer. He told me that Fenix has lost their chief engineer. He said that explains why there aren't new fenix lights.

Is this true?
 
Well, it seems that Fenix is updating all XM-L lights that they have. TK35,41,60 and 70 will get a U2 led. -So no new lights, but just some updating at Fenix. -Maybe that explains something.. :shrug:
 
E40, LD41, upcoming bike lights (pics floating around), recent LD22 and LD12, upcoming LD30 and LD50 (there's a thread about them on this forum)... maybe your dealer is just out of the loop?

Well have to say, that the E40 and LD41 are not very new, more combined from other lights, and so making a new light. And the LD30 and LD50 still doesn't a release date.
 
I wonder how many actual flashlight designers there are worldwide. Couldn't be a big number.

Did they lose him in London just before the Olympic games 2012.

a flashlight needs a host, and dxDOTcom is full of thousands of budget lights which could serve as design example. some stores sell DIY parts for flashlights: lens, o-rings, driver, reflector, switches, LED stars, .. plus some simple modding/soldering
you put everything together, and there you go: a new flashlight with new specs.

If you study the psychology of man, then you'll learn that we love simple things: a beer, a car (as a whole entity), a flashlight and a piece of meat. Simple things are either beautiful or enjoyable.

If flashlights were as complicated as advanced classical music in contrast to popular movie classics, this place would be abandoned.

Yes, flashlight are simple things. Anyone could tackle the composition of his/her own creation. Without tools, you use DIY parts from KD and IO and DX, with machines, you can mill your own designs.

As far as i know, Fenix is planning to announce some new products in a few months. Fenix chief engineer is still in charge of his responsiblity in Fenix Limited.

thats not the problem, gourmet restauraunts frequently go under after the chef quit/died/retired not because they cannot cook without the head chef but that the "character" of the product is lost. The new chef is not going to make the dishes taste exactly like the previous one. And its the taste, not the food, that was the selling point. Notice while PK was with Surefire we saw the beautiful designs of the Es Cs and Ms? Somehow, with the opening of Icon it seems the new surefire lights are now somehow different... I got nothing on its quality or workmanship, but I feel the design is so distant from that of the former lights that I cannot bring myself to accept them beyond subpar. Fenix too came a long way, and it may continue to alter its "design philosophy" more and more sharply if this rumor is correct.

dude fenix doesn't use nanjg drivers LOL
 
not being a fan of dual switches, bezel twisting, and cycling through many modes has turned me off to many fenix lights. i like fenix as a brand, but most of their lights just arent my cup of tea.

if the rumors are true... i might have more fenix lights in the future. :thumbsup:

and i couldnt agree more about the SF/PK situation. the more recent surefire offerings just arent the same to me.

That's actually the point. The fascilities matter less than the talent. Depending on the guys (or girls) influence, the same set of tools could yield a wildly different set of outcomes. Or worse, the new guy is afraid of messing with what works and doesn't take the risks needed to innovate.

Oftentimes, judgment is more important than skill.
 
People use actual, physical tools to design flashlights? I thought they used Autocad. Maybe you could build one in your garage, but seems like you'd use software to design it. Just bolting parts together isn't design. Design is where everything is spec'd out before you build it.

Physical tools (and the talent to use them) are used to prototype, which is an essential part of the design process. Without it, you can easily get just crap.

I hope a new designer will see the benefits of neutral emitters.
