I've been very impressed by the runtimes, which chevrofreak's charts show for AW's high current 750 mAh RCR 123 cells in a fenix P3D.

They're so much better than what I got from other cells.

So I decided to order the AWs (3,7V) - all the long way from US to Europe.

But after testing them, I got remarkably shorter runtimes than chevro had measured.

Example:

Chevro got 11 hours on med and 3:20 on high (P3D)
I only get 8 hours on med and 2:30 on high. (P3D CE Q5)

This is still better than any cell I used before ... but not THAT good...

Is it because the Q5 needs more energy than the regular P3D?
(But shouldn't it be the other way round?)

Or does my charger stop charging too early?
(I measured 4,17 V "hot" off the charger)

Or are there even better "secret" AWs out there?

Thanks for any idea!

Eric

May have found the reason by myself.

According to this chevro-chart, the Q5 uses more Energy than the Rebel 100 or the Cree CE:

Of course it also puts out more light.

I made my own runtimes of the P3D Q5, in modes turbo and high.

On mine, the shutdown seems to happen a bit sooner but my AW RCR123 may be older (more used) than yours.

Hi Lermite,

thanks, thats interesting!

So the Premium Q5 seems to have shorter runtimes than the P3D CE!
Though fenix on their website gives identical runtimes (for primaries):

P3D CE
• General Mode: 9 lumens (65hrs) -> 40 lumens (13hrs) -> 90 lumens (4.8hrs) -> SOS
• Turbo Mode: 160 lumens (1.8hrs) -> Strobe

P3D Premium Q5
• General Mode: 12 lumens (65hrs) -> 53 lumens (13hrs) -> 120 lumens (4.8hrs) -> SOS
• Turbo Mode: 215 lumens (1.8hrs) -> Strobe

Is there any mean to delete a post on these forums?

Yeah, but it's a cool forum. I always thought, I'm the only adult who plays with flashlights. Now I feel almost "normal" ;-)

I hope I'm normal too :)
But I think that anybody, adult or child, need some toys to make the life better. Ours are flashlights, other's are something else but being a flashaholic is less expensive than being a car lover, by example.

So everything is fine
(except for the overestimated runtimes).

Happy Easter, John Boy ;-)
