I understand the lure of wanting to be able to focus "just so you can", but in every real world situation in which I've used my L2D/Q5, I have yet to want to either focus narrower OR spread any more.
It reaches extremely well for a 2-AA (180 lumens) and at it's lowest setting (11 lumens) it's still more bright and spready than I need for middle of the night trips around the house to see where the dog threw up, yet offers a strong but soft hot spot that fits virtually every situation perfectly.
For general use at night, I think I even prefer the L2D most times over my Tiablo A9s. Yes the Tiablo is obviously brigher and throws better, but it's beam is distinctly narrower with a harder edge around the hot spot, and a lot of times you want to have a wider view at closer distances (mostly under 150 feet) which the L2D does very well.
At about $60, you might want to get one and THEN see if you still think you need a focusable light. It's my bet that you won't.
