My family and friends just don't get it that I love flashlights. I get a new light and get all excited..bring it to family get togethers and they pretty much chuckle at me. My fiance doesn't get it either. Kind of sucks not having anyone to share/talk about my excitement of flashlights with. Nice to have forums like this. I am sure I am not the only one experiencing this.

I just recently got into the better lights and the sad thing is is that I lost my father last year but he really liked flashlights and gadgets etc. I really wish he was here because I know he would be very impressed with these newer LED's and even the better Xenon lights... He would appreciate them.. I wished I got into this sooner so I can share with him the excitement of flashlights..

hey germanshepard, i'm real sorry to hear about your dad. At least you'll be able to think of him everytime you get a new light.

Germanshepherd, sorry to hear about you losing your father last year. I can't imagine how hard that would be and I dread the day. Hopefully you have a lifetime of fun experiences to reflect on and maybe to have or will have children who enjoy the things you enjoy. At least you have a Heavenly Father above who loves you and will never leave you. :)

I'm really sorry about your dad. He's probably up there thinking about how great lighting technology has improved and is happy that you are continuing his hobby.

As soon as there is a power outage, the rest of you family will see the light.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Having strong faith definately helps get through the hard times. Sometimes I can sense him smiling down on me when I am "playing" with my lights. I'm in my early 40's and not seeing any children in my future at this stage but if I did have kids they would be into flashlights lol. I'm itching to get another flashlight real soon. I do not have any Fenix yet so maybe that is a good start.. Thanks again for the kind words...lots of nice people on these forums..and I especially appreciate them being a newbie on here. Most newbies get ignored lol.

You're welcome GS :)

As Gunner mentioned, all it takes is one time without light and suddenly the guy with flashlights becomes "popular." My family no longer thinks I'm weird as they're enthusiasts too. My mom even carries two flashlights with her now. She came home to a house by herself without power and felt pretty helpless. It took little convincing to be more prepared next time. She now has has a photon, and LOD CE.

My problem is I don't get it either, and I'm the one addicted!
I have Numerous cheap lights plus 2 HIDs and 3 Lanterns, 4 Maglights (2 using Ds, a mini and a solitare (got them all before being educated ;)) and a Bushnell, and a Tiablo A8 and a Fenix P1D CE, and I have one of the DX P7 lights ordered. Yet I'm still looking at the Fenix store and likely to buy a Fenix L0D, L1D and L2D... oh and another P1D CE when the next gen comes out... and their 18650 light if its good...

Why? I don't need the damn things! Why do I keep buying more?!! Any psychologists in the house? :)

it's funny how we all experience the same reactions lol. At work my co-workers asked me what my fiance' got me for my b-day. I said a flashlight. They said that all she got you and I said it was a $65 Surefire..they thought she was nuts for spending that much on a flashlight. I said its not just any ole flashlight and they said a flashlight is a flashlight. I should bring it in to work and show them.. When I told them it is Surefires lowest price flashlight they were floored..

I get the 'look' on occasion. Especially when they become aware of the price. LMAO. Luckily, I am surrounded by people that mostly care about me and tend to 'like' things that I do. My birthday is coming up real soon, and I have an inkling that my GF is gonna get me light related stuff!

I guess that's why we are all here. We get it.

Your dad (from "up there") has probably steered you towards flashlights! He's able to enjoy them vicariously through you.
