Available two sets, each a PR to BiPin socket adapter fitted with WA 01185 bulbs.

This set will allow you to drop-in or wire the socket into an existing PR type of bulb socket such as is used in MagLites. The PR2Bipin socket will allow the use of G4 bipin size bulbs; the pin spacing is 4mm. The photo shows the sockets loaded with Phillips 5761 and Welch Allyn 1185. The bulbs are removable. I built the sockets. Sockets are an on going project of research and development for me, these sockets are my first models, informally called MK 1.
A ceramic PR to Bi-pindrop in socket; not machined but fabricated from brass tubing, copper tubing, and Cotronics 940 ceramic potting material. This is a limited production run completed to deplete surplus materials that were obtained to support personal portable lighting design projects.

There are 42 steps to building one socket, not counting steps preparing jig fixtures and ceramic materials. These sockets accomplish the intended objective. The quality is functional, some tooling marks may be visible, solder joints visible on the bottom and ceramic appearance often vary between pieces but the critical dimensions to provide a proper orientation to the foci of the OEM reflector has been maintained. These are different from the machined PR to bi-pin offered other makers.
The drop in feature allows the use of the original cam action and reflectors of most brands of lights. It also allows the use of modified systems to include pre-focused reflectors.
These sockets work with most G4 style bi-pin bulbs. Not every combination has been tried.
The bi-pin-sockets are COPPER, a better conductor than aluminum, brass, gold, etc., only Silver conducts electricity better.

The socket is fabricated from a brass housing, copper pin-tube connectors in the sockets and Cotronics 940 ceramic. All electrical connections, ground pin tube to the case by a short copper jumper, are encased in soldered. The casing and tubes use a proprietary design matrix to lock into the ceramic to reduce chances of slippage that can occur in other systems due to thermal expansion differentials. The socket places most G4 bulbs at a correct focal point for cam equipped OEM reflectors and most reflectors that have duplicated the OEM specification. It could place the bulb at an improper height for some reflectors, not all combinations have been investigated. Pin-tubes are designed to correctly fit typical G4 wire pins. This socket as well as other sockets that are made by milling and machining sometimes fit to the pins loosely, that condition is easily corrected.
Bulb centering can also be affected by the bulb to socket fit and socket to flashlight bulb retaining system match up.

INSTRUCTIONS

Most bi-pin bulbs are very hot, some are under pressure, many require cleaning and absolutely will fail if contaminated with contaminates from bare skin, the result of handling. Eye protection is recommended and advised when handling bulbs.
Initial Burn Out and Use:
As in high output potted bulbs, even though the sockets are baked during the ceramic curing process sometimes there seems to be residues that burn out in first use. To keep from fogging the window (lens) and reflector from evaporating substances during first use do a burn out in the open with the head off, do so in a safe manner, some bulbs are under pressure, and most are very hot.

Corrective Actions:
Wear Eye Protection
If the bulb is too loose in the socket it will easily slide out and will have poor electrical contact. To fix that grasp the base of the pin at the bulb with one pair of needle nose pliers and with another pair of needle nose pliers grasp the end of the pin and bend it slightly out ward to the lateral long side of the bulb. Bending the pin without support, bending against the connection to the bulb may break the bulb or pin. To the other pin do the same in the opposite direction. Make the bends very slight. This bend will tighten up the contact of the pin wire within the tubes. An alternate method is to bend the pins closer together or farther apart.
If the bulb does not center, look down on it in the reflector and gently align the bulb applying very mild pressure and bend to the pins. You can easily damage or break bulbs by bending the pins.
If the bulb sets too high in the socket because the bulb contacts the ceramic material then the ceramic be ground down to lower the focal point.
If the bulb is too low PR spacing washers can be used to bring it up to the focal point, foci. It can also be not seated as deeply in the connectors.
If the bulb is too tight, sometimes clipping a portion off the end of the pins reduces the friction and leverage of any kinks in the bulb pin wires and the bulb will go in.

NL, glad to see your project come to completion knowing some of the long hours and effort spent. These are quality made having the advantage of using them certainly do recommend.
 
Can I get WA01164 bi-pin bulbs to go with the socket instead of the 1185?
I only have wa1185 on hand. I am not a dealer or custom modder, I just happened to accumulate more stuff and sometimes I cannot see my bench top.

I am a modder and if you followed my growth here a CPF I came up with an improved PR to bipin socket that uses Mill-max connectors on the pins both G4 adn G6.35 models. I will not make or market a socket as a product like the dealers do but you will find the new model I make eventually in my builds. I still have several of my origional PR to BiPIn MKI models that I turned out my first 5761 hot wires with and some of my lights that were reviewed on CPF carried this socket. I also built M85 with these sockets and bulbs like the ones above. The above socket is what I call the MKI and works just like the old and new FIVEMEGA and Kaidomain sockets. Because I now build with an different designed pr to bipin socket I no longer need my supply of MKI sockets so I am letting a few go.

MKI is one of my first models and is based on the original FM model with straight pin hole connectors. My sockets are not massed produced but custom hand built and tested for electronic function, 47 steps in the manufactuing process. The interior tubes have a locking mechanism imbeded in the ceramic so as not to slip out from abusive use.

You may have also read that I frost bulbs for improved beam patterns and throw, only the bottom 2/3 or that below the filament is frosted. Because light from the top of the filament does not throw shadows.

Keeping with the new dealer prices I have cut my price. Here you can get the three things you need, socket, bulb and frosted at a reduced combo price.

Need a Litho123 smooth reflector for your Mod? I have two new spares also to sell. I like them best in the 1185 and 5761 models. $20 each and I will not charge shipping on it if included with the bulb/socket order which has shipping posted above.
 
:bump: Good Morning ! It is my week end and I will bump my FS 'cause I got time to be on CPF. Bumps once a week to be reasonable. But time has slipped away and I will be modding less now. What is the OD of the brass barrel?

(I bought a FM version, which is just superb and fits a Maglite like a glove, but what I am really hoping for is one that is no bigger around than a standard PR bulb base)

I measured several of them, the electronic caliper is super sensitive and jumps a bit on the values.

OD is 11.08-11.10 mm
The OD is consitant as these are made from tube stock.

length~ 13.70-14.00 mm
flange diameter~ 12.70-13.00 mm

How about $20 for a new FROSTED bulb and bi pin adapter? Is the 1185 that hailed in the era of hot wires now dead?

The adapter is worth that much!
