is it difficult to change the pyrex-lens into a UCL-lens?
i'm planing to buy a G2 and want to upgrade it with 3,7V-bulb and 17670-batt., perhaps later with a P90-bulb. let's see.

is there still no change to get a nitrolon AN19 for build a G3 out of the G2??

There is not a nitrolon AN19 out as of yet.

And it is very easy to change out the lens on a G2. I just did mine last week and it took around 30 seconds.

The change is pretty easy as Bryan said. I am just curious as to why. Pyrex is much more durable both mechanically and thermally than UCL. The increased transmittance of UCL is negligible and IMO would be nearly impossible to detect with the eye.

Just curious.

I was thinking the same, Flash Gordon.

Perhaps he meant Lexan?

I'm thinking of doing the same. How is it done ? (My new black G2 has no indentations in the lens retaining ring of the bezel like my one year old one.)

the ring is held in place with lock-tite.
I was told to heat the beezel up in the oven 20 min 200°F.

then it would come apart.

I haven't done this yet - but i bought a G3 :grin2: and run the G2 with a 3,7V bulb and 17670.

The retaining ring on some G2s are pretty hard to remove - some have more loctite applied to them I guess. One was pretty hard to remove, but the other was easy for 2 of my G2s.

My method : remove the LA from the bezel. Place the bezel horizontally (not standing) on a stable surface - table will do. Press down firmly but slowly on the threaded end to more or less deform the bezel tube. Roll the bezel a bit and repeat. This rolling and pressing will loosen the loctite somewhat - you may even hear a crack sound when it loosens.

The retaining ring should now be easy to remove - I used a needle-nosed plier. Good luck.

My retaining ring has no indentations to use a needle-nose plier. Any suggestions ?

I've not seen any G2s without the indentations on the retaining ring, so far that is. Is this a recent model that you got?

My recently purchased G2 I could not get a UCL lens in and it has the new retaining ring. The UCL lens was thicker than the lexan lens in the flashlight and the retaining ring would not go back in.

Yes I got it from Opticshq only a couple of months ago.

mmm...AFAIK the gaps is necessary for surefire to install the window into the bezel in the first place.....sounds like the newer versions are preventing users to disassemble them:ohgeez:

Got a new G2, and no, it doesn't have any indentations in the retaining ring.

This is unfortunate news. I rather like the beam profile the indentations on the retaining ring make. It adds interesting little humps to the edge of the flood beam.

There IS NO NEED to deform the bezel as indicated above as the deformation will be apparent when threaded to the body. I know :mecry:. Best bet option is to take a small flat-head screwdriver and carefully pry the ring loose around the circumference before unthreading the bezel ring counter-clockwise. Careful unseating worked on both an older G2 and a recently shipped G2L.
