Surefire claims G2 LED gives 80 lumens for 12 hours while G3 LED gives the same lumens but 9.42 hours. The G3 uses an extra battery to give them same brightness, so shouldn't it last longer ??

Anyone have the new G3 LED already??

So to me the extra price of the G3L and the expense of the extra battery is not worth it.

Thankyou! That explains it

So I guess a G2 LED is the best choice unless you really need the high tactical output level.

The numbers are misleading. The3 G2l doesn't emit 80 nlumens for 12 hours. It drops pretty quickly to 60 lumens. I suspect the G3L has a much longer time at 80 lumens.

If you need strictly an LED solution, you need to balance your need for brightness against your need for runtime at the rated brightness.
The bottom line with these two lights is this. The G3L will produce the rated brightness for a longer period of time than the G2L.
So if you want it bright for longer then go for the G3L.
If you want trubo level brightness and don't care about runtime then get a Malkoff M60 unit. It rocks.
