Gerber Infinity Ultra with ???

Has anyone ever replaced the LED in one of the Ultra's with one of the new Cree, Rebel, Seouls, etc?

Can it be done?

I carry one of these lights everywhere, the CMG government model, but would change to the Gerber if i could get much brighter LED and the close or same runtime.

Yesterday I planned to modify my Gerber IU from stock LED to a Cree XR-E. I opened the head and this modification doesn't look very difficult (though the inside will need some Dremel-ing ) , will do it one of these days and let you know the result. I'm also going to polish the reflector cup in the front of the light. I will leave the stock driver there because I want a low output light with a loooong runtime. I also want it to have a floody beam so the XR-E looks a good LED for this modification.

Looks very interesting. I've been wondering about the same thing. But, being Italian challenged, is there a similar site in English, preferably with simple, step by step instructions and pixes, kinda like 3rd Shift does?

Yes, any English translations would be helpful.

use Google translate or Babelfish or one of those - the translations are not even close to semi-decent, but enough for one to get the general ideas being conveyed.
