My initial response to the Gladius tailcap was, "For such an expensive light they sure did skimp on the tail cap." Currently, my response is, "This is a freaking awesome tailcap." Why did I change my mind? If you have ever practiced low-light shooting using a gladius and a tactical light with the momentary-on switch, you'll know exactly what I mean.

While holding a pistol and the gladius, the "soft-touch" tailcap makes it so easy to switch from on and off. The "soft-touch" tailcap reduces hand-stress I commonly experience using other tactical lights with the momentary-on switches. Focusing on shooting and trying to keep the light on with the momentary-switch really adds stress to your hand and situation.

Just my two-cents.

Wonder if SF or any modders can make a similar tailcap for the Z2 ?

Just one thing.... Everyone I know who carries a Gladius, says the same thing.... They have to lock out the tailcap when carried in a holster. Otherwise, the light has a tendency to turn itself on in the other modes.

If you're carrying a light for tactical purposes, having to unlock it before you can use it, just doesn't seem right to me.

Be careful with magnets. I think that when I noticed my Gladius locked out but in full-output constant-on in my MUL, it was because of the knife I carry that uses magnets to attach to a clip.

Thanks for the heads-up. Didn't realize the Gladius had magnet issues.

In my opinion the Gladius does have issues. The biggest one being that it drains batteries while not in use. For me that's the biggest issue for me.

I really love my SF-Z2 with the Wolf-eyes drop-in cree but like I said before the momentary-on switch really tires my hand out.

BTW, are most CPF'ers not a fan of the Z2? I love it's size and robustness.

What do you guys and gals use for a WTSHTF light?

The Gladius has "magnet issues" in the same sense that the U2 does, or as does any light that uses a Hall effect sensor. It's not really a design flaw, it's more of a trade-off between functionality and drawbacks.

I apologize for not being able to recommend a SHTF light, because the S has never really HTF for me, nor do I really expect it to in the near or distant future. If we're just talking rock-solid reliability, though, I'd recommend the ProPoly (Luxeon, of course). Try looking into the Streamlight and Pelican lines.

With the exception of Fenix lights, Surefires are the most popular brand on these forums. Being a Surefire, I doubt you'll find a lot of non-fans on CPF. I've examined the Z2 model closely. It's a Winner. But I prefer the C2 model because of its carry clip and its thicker grip-ring.

I've also been fortunate that the $#^% has never hit the fan. But I know that it could. My WTSHTF light is, without hesitation, my Surefire L4 and my Surefire E2d.... Usually with the L4 as my EDC.
