Well isn't the next cheapest 5 watter over $100?? And from the reviewers chart the next cheapest comparable light is thge streamlight TL3 LED at $110 and has slightly less output. Seems like a deal!

If you shop around you can find the Streamlight TL-3 LED for under $100. IIRC I got mine for around $90 not too long ago. This does look like a pretty good deal on one of the cheapest 5-watters though (while they last).

is some days that goldengadgets sell their 5W at 49$, 3W at 39$ and 1W at 19$ on ebay

but the question is: WHY? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

That thing runs at 130F during extended periods? That's hot enough to hurt!

If it's waterproof, you could use it in the tub or the pool...

A regulated 5w Luxeon light for $49? That's a heck of a deal. The LED alone costs a big chunk of that amount.

I have two of these. The luxeons are pretty green.
But at this price, they are a bargain anyway.
Oh, and yes, it's regulated.

That's not bad.
Even if all anybody wants is just to use it as a host for maybe...., a U,V, or /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif a W bin lux5.
Or perhaps, depending on flashlight's regulation (buck?) a good lux3.

I picked one up from lifestylefascination.com a few months back for $60 when it got mentioned here. It appears to be regulated (no perceptable brightness drop-off so far) and not green at all. It does run hot, I think the instructions even said something about turning it off after 10 minutes to cool. It is significantly brighter than either of my ElektroLumens FT-3Cs on fresh nimh's (unregulated LuxIII on 3 c-cells for those not immediately familiar with the specs). I think the manual also specified a two hour runtime on fresh cr123's. I haven't run my down yet.

It does use a star rather than a bare emitter, I opened it up with an idle thought to checking the bin code, and maybe upgrading to a W. But I gave up pretty quick, the star is embedded in its own cavity covered by a piece of metal with a much smaller hole, about as big as the hole in the reflector that you can see in the picture in the ebay auction. The cover is very firmly attached, perhaps welded/soldered in place. If anyone else has figured out how to get the star out of that cavity without permanently damaging anything, please post.

Right now, this light is my favorite light. Much lighter than the FT-3C, about the same throw with more side-spill/fill and almost, but not quite pocketable. Easily suitable for a woman's purse, being so light. I have definitely run it longer than 10 minutes at a time, but probably not more than 20 minutes. I think I will pick up a few more from the ebay auction as gifts (boy is that a sentence you won't see anywhere else but here).

Has anyone bought one from eBay yet? As soon as I saw these, I wanted one! I know it's a good deal, and even if the LED is a bit greenish, is it still really 120 lumens? Damn, that's a lot of light for a single LED. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
