Green LED in a minimag?

Hello everyone,

I was planning on buying the green TLE-5 module to use in a minimag, but did some searching, and found an old thread with a similar topic (making a green flashlight). I decided to post a new thread, and not dig that one up, because LED technology has changed so much in the last several years.

Anyway...like I said, I was planning on using a green TLE-5 in a minimag. But it's a Lux I LED, and something a bit brighter might be useful. I searched around, and couldn't find any green cree or seoul emitters. But is there anything brighter than the Lux I? And if so, is there any way to stick it in a minimag? Ideally, I'd like to retain focusability, but I would have had to give that up with the TLE-5, so it's not a big deal. Thanks for your help! (and it's really good to have CPF back :grin2:)

As far as colored power LEDs go, you're pretty much stuck with Luxeons and Cree X-Lamps (the colored ones are the 7090 XL series). Remember, the only difference between a LuxI and a LuxIII is the current at which they are binned.

There's no way I can fit into a minimag!

Oh, I didn'y know that. Would the Cree X-lamps be brighter than the Lux I, if say I mounted one on the TLE-5 board? Or on the TLE-5EX board? Seems that modding something might be the only way to get that much brightness. Though I don't have the budget or the experiance to do anything too custom.... Keep the ideas coming! I appreciate 'em :grin2:

Hmmm...yea, looking at the green Terralux TLE-5, I'm not thinking it's going to be bright enough. So it looks like my only option is to build something custom--I've got little experience, but I'm willing to try. Can anyone suggest a plan for building a light like this? I'd like it to be in a minimag, if possible. Definitly needs to run on 2 AA cells. Runtime isnt really important.... Thanks in advance for any ideas!!
