Guide to modding bike lights?

I want to buy a relatively cheap (dx or similar?) bike light and mod it to make it a lot brighter and suitable for off road night use. Does anyone have any recommendations of lights that can be modded fairly easily? What about this one?

Take a look at Michael Krabach's website, he has made several nice cheap bike light upgrades.

Best bet would be to start with any of the P7 lights TBH.

forget any cheap (= under 100,--) ready made bike-lights (especially if they feature a housing made from plastic)

when You look at DX:
get something like the Seoul P7 or the multiple cree (3 or 4 led) lights,
one of the models to be powered by two 18650 cells ...

Use just the head and build yourself switch and cables at the back end - leading to Your 7.2 V Camcorder pack

... cant get cheaper and with less effort than this

Not really modding but a few homebrew lights that seem to function well.
