Ah yes... it was the monkey in the cage that got exposed to the space germ, and the guy got the laser to the hand later on. It's been a long time since I saw the movie, but I remember how scary it was as a kid.
Chengiz mentioned the spaghetti westerns.. I remember those very fondly, too. Still watch them all the time on cable. Brings back memories of drive-in theaters, intermission cartoons, horns honking & buttery popcorn smell at the concession stand. Anybody remember those "pic" mosquito coils? They looked like an electric stove burner and you could light the end with a match to keep the skeeters away when you had to roll the window down a bit to hang the speaker on the glass.

Saw it when it first came out (I was a 10 year old sci-fi fan) and many times later on the tube... excellent science based flick. The book is amazing, but doesn't give you that suspenseful impact the film does.
