Have the Nitecore D10 issues been resolved?

Hi,

I bought Nitecore D10 s/n 00712 when they first came out. I loved the small size and simple interface. But, the switch has never been reliable and requires a lot of force to press the button.

I did the normal things to make it better like using silicone lubricant, different orings, used contact cleaner, etc. This did help some for a while. When I replace the battery most times the switch does not work correctly and I have to open up the flashlight and piddle with it.

Are the new (currently shipping) Nitecore D10's better?

I bought an R2 D10 from 4Sevens a couple of months back and it works fine, but requires a fair bit more pressure to activate than any other light I have (of many).... I've kind of gotten used to it. The most pressure is required with li-ions (what I typically run with) because they are longer than Eneloops or primaries. The shorter L91 and Eneloop cells require less pressure. Great light, the D10. All I would change is to have the activation pressure lightened up a bit... but as is I can live with it.

(P.S. Yes, I've cleaned and used several different types of lube... which has made activation a little easier.)

i bought a D10 R2 a couple weeks ago from 7777 and it still hasn't shipped. they've been out of stock and are waiting on a shipment they say. i'll let you know how mine works; whenever i get it that is...

MerkurMan... does the piston in yours activate very easily with just a little pressure? Have you tried yours with a 14500 li-ion? That extra cell length tends to increase required pressure.

I've had mine for a long time and carry it daily, and haven't had any problems. I use eneloop type cells, and don't find the button/piston hard to press at all. It's a bit stiffer than a clicky but not a problem.

I agree... with the shorter cells (like Eneloop NiMH) the piston press isn't that big of a deal. Even with 14500, it's not a big deal, but does require somewhat greater pressure to operate.

I just tried my D10 (s/n 00005) with both NiMH and AWs 14500 and must honestly say that I could not feel any discernable difference between the two. The switch has worked perfectly since day one. The D10 with clip and trit is one of my edc lights.

I have one of the early pre-ordered lights and have not had any problems at all.

I've found that I can adjust the button pressure by slightly loosening the head.

The only problem I've had is that it has a tendency to turn on when in my pocket because of the metal clip on the lanyard. This problem was solved by loosening the head a little more so that it becomes a momentary switch. A quick twist return it to its normal function.

I guess i can say mines not too stiff or easy......just right, but i did notice that when the o-ring is lubed its easier to press.

sigh, me too, 2 weeks to the day. But I'm holding on for that lifetime warranty. :tired:
If I don't give up and order a Defender Infinity or EZAA I'll get back to you on that quality question.

Agreed -- lubrication made a big difference.

But, in my case, at least, not until I tried Krytox.

I turn it on every day to see if it's working flawlessly now, but I still don't have 100 percent confidence that it will do what I want when I want.

I sure hope it does: this is one sweet light.

I just use RC grade silicon and it seems to work well on all my lights. Do you by any chance have a link on that product or where i can get some to try out.

omg...i ordered my D10 R2 about 2 weeks ago. ive been calling 4sevens and they are still waiting on shipment. but today i called them and they told me that the new shipments have arrived. but im not sure if they will have enough in stock to cover all the pre-orders. i guess we will have to wait another 2 weeks for a new shipment.

what do you say about the Cree Q5 version of the D10??

you have also been waiting huh. me too and its been a pretty long wait if you ask me. 4sevens told me that its a pretty popular light and thats why its been out of stock for over a month now. :(

I love mine, gets used the most it seems.....dont know how it would compare against the R2 since i dont have one yet.

I agree, both my D10's don't require more pressure to activate than any of my clicky-type lights. In fact, the piston drive is much smoother and ends up irritating the pad on my thumb much less than when I EDC my Dereelight C2H or my 47's Quark AA. Also, there's less travel for activating the light than with any of my clickies. I will say this much, I think the piston drive is smoother than it is on the original PD lights, the Lunasol 20's. I recently got two of them. Maybe I'm not comparing apples to apples, though, since my LS20's work with RCR123's and my D10's work with eneloops? Either way, gotta stand up for this much maligned design since I'd like to see MANY more lights designed with the piston drive and so many people just don't seem like it. I relubed both my D10's with that waxy non-conductive lube that's for sale in the marketplace but not because I had to, it came from the factory with that blue stuff and worked just fine, the new lube made it stick a little less and the travel was smoother, but it really was ok with the factory stuff.
