HDS 2x battery case?

Hello all:

I have an HDS basic 60, and had a chance to pick up a brand new HDS battery case. The label on the poly bag it came in states:

HDS 2 x 123 case
777101245

I am a flashlight newbie, but I know enough that these cases are somewhat hard to get so I grabbed it.
I know this will sound really dumb, but I am not exactly sure what this case does.

With this case screwed in, will it increase my light's lumens (make it brighter), or is it designed to only expand my run time?

What will my runtime be with the additional battery on?

Also where does it screw on? do I just unscrew the tail switch on my light and install the tube, or do I unscrew the "tapered" section and put it on there?

I tried the search function, but I could not narrow the many results down to this case.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Your HDS light , has 3 main parts:

1- the "body"-houses the bezel, lens, reflector, LED, and converter.

2- the battery tube- the name explains for itself.\

3- the switch

Depending on which switch you have, the battery and switch are mated for life via locking compund, thus making the switch un-removable. To install the new 2x123 tube , unscrew the battery tube, like if you where to replace the battery, and replace it with the new tube. Now its important to know that even though HDS claims the light handles the 9 volts of the 2 123 batts, its not recommended. Most of use a 17670 battery.

Lots of info on this thread:

Your run times will be 3X at higher levels 2X at the lower levels.PM sent

Hds lights will handle 2X123 primaries with no problem at all Thats 6vts not 9vts.It,s the novatac that will blow with two primaries.

Be aware that Lighthound has 2x battery cases for sale for around $45 and I believe Henry has stated that they may be factory seconds or rejects that Novatac bought from him when he sold the EDC line to them. I'm not saying that's what you have, just be aware there may be battery tubes out there that look new but don't live up to Henry's quality control.

Enjoy your new battery tube. I love the two tubes I bought from Lighthound. HDS lights are the BEST!

Just wanted to say I got one of the LightHound 2x 123 tubes and it is nothing less than perfect

I bought 6 myself and they all work great. When i spoke to Henry he stated that the tail caps for sale were more of a risk do to the fact that there is not much that can go wrong with a battery tube.

Many thanks to all that replied.
Thermal Guy, thanks also for the PM. I have alot of reading to do!

So- what rechargeable battery do I buy?

You want to get protected aw's. IF they will fit not sure if they will.

AW 17670 protected fit just fine. You could have got one at lighthound same time as you bought the case. Or you can order direct from AW on marketplace.

However if you don't have a chager and batteries already, it might just be more cost effective to run it on primaries. For the cost of a good charger and 2x 17670s you could probably buy about 50 primaries. Actually by the time you are done you will have > $100 extra bucks in the light. Thats a lot of batteries.

I run the HDS on a single CR123 tube 90% of the time.

Don't mean to nit pick, but that statement is incorrect. On page 7 of the EDCBasicUsersGuide.pdf and page 13 of the EDCUltimateUsersGuide.pdf it states that the HDS is rated for 1.8V to 7.3V. So 2x CR123 lithium primaries (6.0V) are fine, but 2x RCR123 Li-ions (8.4V fresh of the charger) will blow the circuit.

I use a protected AW 17670 Li-ion (4.2V) cell in mine and it fits fine. It does give you extended runtime on high, but I personally don't EDC my U60GT with the 2x123 tube because it way too big. I run it with the 1x123 tube because it's small enough to pocket. If I EDC'ed it with the 2x123 tube in my pants pocket, I'd get a lot of "are you happy to see me, or is that a flashlight in your pocket" jokes. :D
