Hi all,

been away for a fair while and am just wondering what it the current "state of the art" mods are for the HDS. By this I mean the old lights not the current models, I have a couple of older units with cree mods and similar and absolutely love them.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

one word...

XP-G

Another...

S2 (highest efficiency not quite yet available)

R5 will be much easier to get, and probably a good deal cheaper as well... From the few mod's seen here, it appears that a lot of the increase in output appears in the spill of the lights (no complaints there), but still a brighter hotspot...

I would use the K2 TFFC.

+1 .... I agree

but bear in mind that a XP-G on a 8mm board is a straight swap
A swap with a K2 TFFC will require filing down the emitter casing
so that it will fit the heatsink

So all of those who are doing XP-G swaps into HDS & Novatac lights are not filling the emitter cavity with a heatsink? XP-Gs are great but I personally would still prefer the K2 TFCC until maybe some nicer bins are available.

I just purchased a HDS B42 XR on the marketplace, w/a P4 mod. As soon as we see some nice warm/neutral tints/bins available, I'm swapping out the P4 for an XP-G.

A lathe made short work of making an aluminum 'heatsink' shim so the 8mm XPG board sits absolutely flush with the pill. Focus and beam profile is as good as it gets with Henry's reflector. I've done this to HDS 60 Basic and HDS Ultimate 60.

What are the dimensions on that shim? Diameter and height wise...

Is that XP-G on an 8mm board? It looks closer to 10mm, but then, pic's can be deceiving.

.064 (if memory serves) thick, 8mm diameter

XP-G R4 on 8 mm round board. Got a few on MarketPlace a month or so ago. Perfect fit in the pill indent. Here is a pic showing the flush pill mount using the aluminum shim.

I know, I know, the solder job sucks, just couldn't get the pencil hot enough in the garage during a cold snap.

I think Henry would approve of both the tint and beam. To my eye they are about perfect.

I put a xp-e R2 Neutral white in my HDS today and it works great.

The xp-e was on a 10mm pcb that is thicker so no shim needed to focus the led. I used a belt sander  to make the 10mm pcb a round 8mm pcb:thumbsup:

The xp-e was from Cutter.
