heat sink question

Hi everyone,

I´m new into led mod, can anyone tell me please what is a heat sink and if they come attached to the led, for example in K2, and if they do, do you need something aditional for dissipating heat.

Well the heatsink has to connect to the body with a fair mass so you are looking at a serperate piece, also LED's come with or without a star which the emitter is mounted to that can be attached to the heatsink.

So it has to be attached to the star, How can I build one? Thanks.
