im fairly new to the serious flashlight world and after utilizing a surefire g2 on military deployments im sold on the quality and was exploring their other options. after looking on thier site i cant seem to find exactly what i would like. essentially im looking for a light thats about the size of my g2 or shorter, LED with the crenelated bezels and a red filter. ideally it will have two modes a low output which has a long run time and a high lumen beam for when its needed with a long distance reach. or is the proper word throw? this is my dilemna: the e2d led defender has everything but the red filter. the a2 aviator has everything but the crenelated bezel. if i could combine the a2 with a crenelated bezel that would be ideal. thanks for the help, this is a cool forum glad i found it.

Many people here love the surefire. Its too pricy for me, but if you change your title to "Which surefire should I get?" I suspect you would get much better response.

Hmmm...that's gonna be hard...The LED's don't give out a good red with the filters, unless you get a nice white/yellow (high CRI) beam. The blue/green hued LED's (fairly common) tend to turn an ugly orange when using a red filter.

If you want a good red-led, consider the A2 series or the Kroma. Kromas can be found in good condition on the MP for about $180 and A2-RD (A2-RED) can be had for about $95. If yer not too concerned with the hue of your red light, then I recommend the 6PDL (same diameter of the G2).

The E2D is .2" thinner on the body than the G2 (think mini-m@g AA body size)

Can you clarify if you want regular (mild) crenualltaions or "Strike/Sharp" crenullations?

What Branch are you in, if you don't mind?

Welcome to CPF BTW.

thanks angelofwar. im active duty navy, and find myself in all types of duty so ideally i need an "all around multipurpose" light. as far as the crenelations are concerned, its not imperative that i have them, although i will be doing a fair amount of security duty and any extra defense is nice. so at least mild would suffice. i think its more important to have low/blinding light with red filter capability so i wont lose night vision. another thing, i should have specified is this does not have to be a surefire, im open to all suggestions and new to the performance flashlight world so if theres something better out there im all ears. as of now the A2 looks to be the best. thanks

Just a thought, but you might consider this light here:

It's probably not up to quite the same level of quality as Surefire but it's also not as expensive as Surefire, and brighter than any LED lights Surefire sells. In particular I thought of this light when you said what you were looking for because you can order it with the RGB kit option which is a set of red, green, and blue filters. You can also order it with a weapons mounting kit that includes the rail mount for the light and the remote switch, for using the gun mounted on your weapon.

Looks like a pretty good deal to me, I ordered one and if you want I can let you know what I think when I get it...

But if you would rather stick with Surefire then by all means do that, there are Malkoff drop-in LED modules that are top notch in terms of brightness and quality, and Malkoff also makes a 2 mode low/high selector ring for them, but I don't think you can buy them currently (sold out). I'm also not sure what you can do about the red filter part.
