Hey Guys. Thought I'd introduce myself. My name's Tom. I'm from the UK and am quite new to all this. I have a couple of questions if that's ok:

First of all, flashlightreviews.com seems to show the surefire KL1 head as giving a more bright hot-spot than the l4. This seems a little unlikely given the quoted light outputs of the two lights are so different but thought I'd ask as I'm weighing up between the two of them.

Secondly, what's this I'm hearing about a 3rd version of the Inova x1? Anyone know how this will differ from the 2nd version?

Many thanks, and a pleasure to meet you all,
Tom

I don't know about the Surefires, but, the Inova line has recently been updated which includes replacing the 5mm LED in the X1 with a Luxeon. I haven't seen anything beyond that. I have an X1 (reflectored - V2) which I like and am curious about this upgrade. But getting any details seems to be an exercise in frustration.

the KL4 head is a flood "wall of light."
the KL1 is a tight minimal flood "thrower" that uses an optic
thats why the KL1 has a brighter hotspot.
but if you put a diffuser over both of the heads and compared their output the KL4 would bee about 3 times as bright as the KL1.

I see, so surely in a self-defence capacity, the KL1's brighter hotspot would be better as a self-defence tool, than the L4 which is advertised as one? Having looked down an e1l I can't say I found it that bad. (I'm not actually looking for a self-defence tool, but I'm intrigued)

Thanks,
Tom

Anyone?

I think that a tighter hot spot requires you to concentrate more on keeping the spot on the attacker, while the floodier L4 would let you concertrate more on fight or flight. The spill beam of the tighter optic might not be enough to see what the attacker is holding in his/her hand, while the floodier beam would allow that. The tighter beam allows you to spot attackers from further away then the flood beam.

That's just my opnion
