Hello Folks,

I've been searching for a pocket sized light that has great throw and I'm wondering if this light exists in my price range.

I'm looking for a light that would operate on a single cr123/rcr123 and that is apprx 4 inches or smaller (but I would go up to 5.5 inches and multiple batteries for the right light). Budget is $50 and I'm looking for a great pocket size thrower. I have a quark mini123 and a ITP A3, and while these are great lights, neither would be considered having a throwy beam. A low, low and high, high would be my preference but more importantly is the high, high and a decent run time on high of apprx 60 minute before drop to 50%.

My serach led me to the Lumapower Incendio V3. Are there better options out there that would meet my criteria? Thanks!

I don't know about "better", but the Nitecore SR3 is pretty throwy. Maybe you can search the forums for beamshots of the SR3 and Incendio! Also consider possible tint differences, and decide whether you like warmer or cooler better?

You'll have to compromise probably, as the best throwing lights tend to have larger heads, and that may reduce pocketability.

If you could stretch your budget a little more, I'd also point you toward the Nitecore Extreme Infinity Q5.

Thanks for the suggestions but the mentioned Nitcore's (though I love the looks of those lights) and Solarforce are out of my budget.

I guess there aren't too many other options (outside of the Incendio) that meet my criteria.

Maybe for inexpensive 1-CR123 lights with better throw, look into:

Romisen RC-C6 II
Romisen RC-C6
ITP C9 Regular
X2000
Romisen RC-N3 II
Ultrafire WF-008 (2-CR123) (longer)
Ultrafire UF-007 (2-CR123) (longer)

If you can go $5-20 above your price (or look for sales/discounts):

Lumapower D-Mini (various models with various prices)
JetBeam RRT-0
JetBeam Jet-II Pro IBS
Ray D1
Nitecore Extreme
EagleTac T100C2 MkII (2-CR123)

The Jet-II and D1 have perhaps the highest throw in this class of lights (from review measurements I could find).

Also - on CPF Marketplace you might find the light you want at a lower price.

For us to really help you , the distance that you expect it to throw would be needed . Everyone's idea of acceptable throw is different.

I have a suggestion that's $40.00 - but it's throw is only 75 to 100 feet.

You can't expect much from a pocketable EDC.

Also , do you expect a tight spot , or normal flood for the distance of your needs ?

throw is limited by the size and depth of the reflector (unless you're using an optic) and a 1xCR123/RCR123 with a huge reflector isnt going to be very pocketable is it?

The MiNi 123 is a great light, i own the neutral white one and it rides on my keys everyday. It throws well enough for its size but loses out to my EX10 R2 which can throw 100ft or so easily

For around the budget and requested size, I'd say Dereelight C2H. But runtime is about 45mins on max.
For an economical alternative, try Solarforce L2M, many choices of drop-ins for throw or flood.

the jetbeam RRT-0 is an awesome little light, although its over $50, but so worth the extra money. it can throw almost as well as my olight m20 premium. its selector ring makes it fun and easy to use. comfortable in my hand or pocket.

romisen rc-c6 ll from shiningbeam. it has a focusable lens. and its well below $50.

+1 on the RRT-0, plus you can use CR123's, AA's or a 14500 Lion battery..

I have one and its pretty throwy for its size, pretty much my EDC light these days.

Good hunting

Brian

I'm currently carrying an RRT-0, and it has been the best EDC I've ever had. I don't find myself wishing for anything more with this light. I agree that it's worth the extra $.

If you're willing to use a 14500, the Jetbeam Jet I v3 is an awesome pocket thrower (though also maybe a bit more than $50).

The nitecore sr3 at 4sevens. Use 50% discount code (nitecore50) and ull have a decent pocket trower for 60$ shipped:sold:Thats a good deal. I wonder why there still is some sr3's left? The discount code still works. (just checked)

stay away from the Incendio V3 in this case. i've got one that i hardly use. its an attractive light w/ great build quality but its definitely not a thrower. also, it gets hot fast in high mode...don't know if this has caused any serious problems in other peoples' Incendios but it definitely gives me concern. the focusable Romisens are a great idea.

another item i've had great results w/ is from DX, sku 5937. its nothing more than a lamp "kit" but w/out the LED or driver. i've been using just the reflector in one of my cheaper hosts and the beam profile is the sharpest i've seen. every single XR-E pill i've used it with has worked equally well but not so well w/ an MC-E or XP-G pill. this reflector's beam profile is WAY sharper than even my Olight M20 w/ its SMO, Dereelight CL1H w/ its SMO, or either of my Malkoff dropins. at only $4 you could easily stay well under $50 by getting a cheap P60 host and XR-E pill. you might also try some 26mm aspheric lenses, they're cheap and pretty easy to find.

Thank you folks for all the great suggestions. Sorry I didn't provide enough details about what "good throw" means to me. I ended up ordering the Lumapower Incendio V3 as I was impressed with the size, output, power, UI and distance beam shots.

TMG, I would love to hear your $40 suggestion (as I'm sure I'm not done buying lights :)). 75-100 ft would likely suit me fine and in regards to beam, I want something that doesn't get too floody as it goes out further...so a somewhat tight spot at a distance would be my preference (for example, from 50 ft away the spot would not cover an entire garage).

Cistallus, thanks for the budget suggestions (I did have and enjoyed a X2000 type of light but I gave it to friend)...I've been looking very hard a Romisen lights lately. I can see them in my future.

Rats, sorry to hear about the V3 as I have one on the way. Even without the best throwy beam, I'm hoping it can be me my versatile general light that's always with me. I like what I've heard about the Romisen RC-C6...I'll picking one up soon.

Yeah, that C2H caught my eye very early on and then I saw those run times. I need to look into the Solarforce lights, as a total newb, I'm worried about picking the right options to get the light I want. Thanks!

Is there an aspheric for it or any of these pocket throwers?

My $40.00 suggestion ... the NEW ITP "S" series lights.

I recently got both the SA1 and SC1.
I would recommend either one.(beams and brightness are the same)

I think they throw quite well for 3 & 4 inch lights.

Rear on/off (forward momentary/tactical)button - plus side mode adjustment button.
low-med-Hi-strobe ... And infinate brightness adjustment anywhere between low to Hi . Built in clip (not removeable-unless you break it off)

"S" series is a small and very versatile $40.00 light. Someone did a review ... I'll try to find it.
.
P.S.> I think MattK said Selfbuilt is going to do a review ... soon .

You know what, I was very, very close to buying the SC1. I really like that light. I think the opposite facing clip and non tail standing is what got me off this light...but I still want it as the SC series looks to be one of the better bargains around. Thank you for the confirmation!

I look forward to selfbuilt's review.
