Was reading about the scheduled new rechargeable Photon's in the LED forum and noted it used a lithium-ion rechargeable. Was wondering how long they hold their charge compared to nimh's which we know except for eneloops and other hybrid batteries don't hold their charge long at all.

Quite a lot longer.

Could you link me the rechargeable photon? I wanted to build a similar thing myself, but if it's already on sale I'll probably save the time.

Hello Geepondy,

Li-Ion cells have a reported self discharge rate of around 1% per month. Some tests done by various people on CPF seem to indicate that figure is a little high. Keep in mind that the self discharge rate is dependent on the state of charge and the storage temperature.

Thanks Tom. A recent experience should have cued me that they have a low discharge rate. A couple of weeks ago, I grabbed my old cell phone which has not been used in 17 months to get an phone number off the address book and it still powered up.

Fallingwater, the new rechargeable Photon is called the ReX (four LEDs) and is one of the first page threads now on the LED forum. Not due out for awhile I guess.
