Howto: Mixing Epoxy with Glow Powder for Filling Cavities

My workshop in the spare bedroom..

Setup for mixing epoxy without making a total mess,
using wax paper taped to the bench
Depth of hole is about 5/16ths
My glow powder collection :devil:
My worklight Multiple colors.. RGB Full Spectrum
Off..
And this is how i make glow powder "Pop"

And when its turned off you get..
Soo, on to the Mixing, 50/50 ratio for the Devcon
First pour, 1/2 way up
Throw on some glow powder..
Then cover to the top.
Back of boks
Front of box
Glowing with "Assistance"
No "Assistance"

HI, im a advid watchsmith , and i use superluminova for my watch dials, have u used this and what would be the difference ? mainly i use superluminova because it is what the high end watch manufacturers use to color match and supposed to have the highest glow brightness and runtime after charged ,, i am curious if yours is as good as this and could save me some money and time, u can only order what i use from the manufacturer and it is not cheap

do u have any expierence or knowledge of the differences?

To be honest, i dont know the specs of the watchmakers glow stuffs.
But this powder i have comes from here:

I have waaaaay too much experience with epoxy and set times...
Too much trial and error. But the 5min is plenty of time if you have
Everything setup and ready to go Before you start to mix it
I usually use th eleftover cups from that diet icetea mix.
And for Artic Epoxy, i use a small glass sheet to mix on. Nothing
to throw away besides the tons and tons of razorblades i use
to mix the stuff. You can even clean it off the glass once it cures.
Just use a razorblade

Post some pics for all to see. My pics have recently been taken with
my Sprint Touch Pro that has a 3.2 autofocus camera, Cuzz i am just too
lazy to whip out the Canon XTi :nana: Plus it charges a the same time
i transfer he pics from it! Double doody!

I did my kids room with some of the constellations and it looks killer.
That was some crappy gun sight paint and it still looks grate.
I'll bet this would be even better.

GW - glowinc.com has the best stuff out there. Their materials technically glow for longer than 24 hours, but who needs more than 8 hours anyway?

The 1/4 oz will last you for many, many, many mods.

Since you're into star ceilings - checkout glowforum.com - there's a dedicated section for that. I've been playing with the water-based paint and a syringe to make star fields. Lots of fun and excellent results.


Sabrewolf - nice pictorial. Something that doesn't get mentioned as much is the need for *masking* around the areas where you're putting the GID mix. That's one of the keys to a very clean mod.


Cuso - I've tried several types of epoxy and, contrary to Sabrewolf, I still prefer the longer curing times. Maybe it's because when I sit down to do some GID mods I tend to do a bunch of them in one go, and 5 minutes is simply not enough time. I like the 8 hr curing type.

Sabrewolf, in Australia a cavity is the common name for what I think the Americans call a "carie" ie a hole in a tooth caused by decay. Your thread title takes on a whole new meaning. AND I wondered how you would charge the stuff up.....

I'm in Canada and cavity does mean the tooth thing but it also means hole. I have never heard of "carie"
