YESSS!!

I grabbed a Wolf-eyes light at eBay.de and I think this is a really good thrower

This is a 12V version, so when I put in a 9V bulb and 2X 18650 cells I should have decent runtimes too...

I hope the moderators allow me to give the link to it:

What do you guys think of this light? Is it what I hope it will be?

Thanks,

Timmo.

Timmo,

I have an Eagle 4 non turbo light. They are very good lights, built like a tank. They have about 220 out the front lumens. They are very close to a SureFire M4 for a lot less money. It looks like you got the turbo head. I want you to come back and give us a report on that light when you get it. When you turn that thing on, I bet you will be able to hear the photons scream! My first real flashlight was a SureFire G2. It looks like you have jumped in with both feet by buying a real light. I predict the two of you will be very happy together and I see many more flashlights in your future.

Welcome to CPF and HOWDY!

Well, Ugrey,

you are at least partially right... yesterday, I bougt a Surefire C3 together with 2 extra lamps as well :-)
I want to have at least ONE Surefire as the quality should be sooo good according to anyone here!
Now, 4 pieces of AW 17500s have to come....

I will surely open a new thread here, when both lamps have arrived... one thread per lamp!

Yep, Your a flashaholic all right. Your going to love the C3. Next you will need to buy a Malkoff drop in LED for it.

@ Ugrey:

I like incans very much, due to the color of the light. Until now, I say: when I want LED, I buy a Fenix. Actually, I already ordered a P1D Q5 as an EDC. Or... is that just because I'm a noob still ?

@ Raoul: WHAT do you say?? 700+ Lumens?? From a C3????
I will have the P91 lamp assembly with it, this one consumes 2,7 Amps and throws 200 Lumen or something.... WHAT will the current draw of a lamp that's outputting 700+ Lumens be? I'm sure.... an 17500 battery (or two) won't be able to fire this safely (let alone 16340s) because this will draw WAAYY over 2,2 Amps (which is 2C for a 1100mAh cell, and is thus in fact the limit of what is safely possible.... or you should take those new, high-drain, lower-capacity lithium cells)

It sounds spectacular indeed, but I think I'll keep the P91 for a while to see how it performs. Batteries will be drawn empty in rapid pace already :(

Let's assume, that an AW 17500 cell reaches 1000mAh in real life, instead of the 1100mAh stated.
In this case, runtime with a P91 lamp assembly will be
1/2,7 hour = 22 minutes.
You better stop after 15 minutes to preserve the batteries. LESS runtime than this, and it will be a joke, totally worthless.

I am used to the 5 hours a mini-maglite gave you, and 2 ordinary penlites would last very, very long indeed!
A runtime of an hour is, in my opinion, already short. Even two hours is short for me.
I just modded my 3D Mag a little, I put in a Halogen bulb 4V / 0,85A and put in some very good NiMH-batteries of 8Ah. This will give you very usable light for over 9 hours...
My other 3D mag got a 6,5V / 0,7A lamp, to accomodate a battery-stick from a MagCharger. The new 4Ah-NiMH sticks will provide more than 5,5 hours of light then. And... the lamp will live quite long, in fact it is UNDER-driven a little, but despite that, bright enough for in-the-home use.
Conclusion: Maglites are for runtime, Surefire is for BRIGHTNESS :nana:
(and way better portability than a 3D Mag....)

Interesting.
What type of bulb is that "4V / 0,85A" lamp and where did you get it?
Finally finding some D sized LSD nimhs makes me want to try that too.

I used an Osram Halogen 4V / 0,85A 6405910-01 HPR 53
Miniwatt Tungsten Halogen lamp for 3-cell torches.

That's what the packing says

I got them from eBay.de and I know Farnell and/or RS components sell them too, only from another brand. I have had them also, they are equally OK!

IMR Cells can handle the ~3.3A draw from the WA1185 , I'd check for you , but the meter I have in my hand right now has a blown fuse, and I'm to lazy to get up :)

look at the 16340 cells, the ones shown in the first pic of the link above to F.M's sale thread.

If you want more runtime in the C3 go with AW's Switch aswell

It's crazy isn't it. I've got the same setup. A year ago I would have never thought it was possible.

I've come completely off those 16340 batteries, they only have half the energy density of 18650s. So no more flashlights running on these anymore.

Two 16340s are about the same size as one 18650.

Two 16340s have 7,4 * 0,5 = 3,7Wh
ONE 18650 has 3,7 * 2,5 = 9,25Wh!!!!

I think this is MORE than clear.....

Timmo.

The IMR 123's are way different than the regular RCR 123's....yes cappacity is down, but they can probably do the same amount of current as the the tradditional 18650's. they dont blow up either.

I was just going off the host you had, and giving you possibilities.

Yes, I trust you all that it will work... for 15 minutes or less.

That's, in my opinion, useless. I could have sticked to my WF-501B in that case, with 19 minutes of runtime from the Ultrafire 16340s that only have 435mAh....
A decent light should have a decent runtime. Most of the people here think Maglites are no good, but they are MASTERS in the runtime! Think of it: 5 hours of runtime from 2 bug-basic, cheap AA-cells....
From my hightech expensive lights like the Surefire C3, I want an hour when possible. It's nearly this: the P90 lamps seems to draw 1,15A combined with the 1100mAh of the AW 17500 batteries nearly gives you an hour of runtime.
I'll switch it off after 45 minutes though, to preserve the batteries.

The Wolf-Eyes E4 I just bought can accomodate 2X 18650 and will bring me over an hour of runtime. That's fine, but this one is no EDC, with the turbohead more than 3 inches in diameter ;)

I still have to recieve my P1D, that will be my EDC for the time being... still looking for a decent-priced E1e!! From that moment, I'll simply have TWO EDCs :sssh:
